golden sun is a pretty bad third of a game, so yes. avoid. the GBA had a decent chunk of other RPGs that were good, and even complete. that's a nice perk. between ZOE: FoM, the two SRT games, Castlevania, Fire Emblem, MMBN, Mario, hell Mother 3 from every account i've ever heard (destined forever in my 'i'll get around to this honest' pile) there isn't much reason to play a bad game to get your genre fix. thankfully. it was popular because it was relatively pretty on a system where the only other RPG at the time was ZOE: FoM, which nobody knew, not because it was anything worth more than the words "it sucks."

Seconding the recommendation for the Klonoa GBA games. Really fun puzzle games with a very nice difficulty level with some nice platforming thrown in. A little short, though.
Both WarioWare GBA games are great, the best two in the series. Warioland 4 is a great level-based platformer with some puzzle elements. Also Mario Golf: Advance Tour is a pretty good game that hasn't been on any of these lists, if you like that Mario Sports RPG genre that started on the GBC. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror is also very good, and probably the best of the GBA Kirby games. -- "That is why war is so tragic. yeah, i can agree somewhat there. GS2 actually is perfectly fine. well not really fine but certainly not terrible like the 1st, and can be moderately enjoyed, though still inferior to... just about every other RPG on the system. of course, it being the second third of the game, well...

it was bad for its time and is absolutely terrible today.
like, that was half the disappointment people had with GS3. "Man this system kinda sucks. and what the hell is wrong with that battle system?!" "It's doing what the first two games did." "But I don't rem--" "You were 10." ".........oh." "Just be glad you don't need to pick each enemy." like, every complaint people had with GS3 was dead lifted from the first two games, and an improvement of them. -- The King Wang. astro boy's definitely one of the best. in terms of action games it's the best game on the system, and i don't care how far you expand 'action,' it's the best.
but do give the SRT games a shot. those two games were the swan song of the system and phenomenal. -- The King Wang. Listen up Urinal Cake. I already have something that tells me if I'm too drunk when I pee on it: My friends. - Colbert. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Golden Sun 3's battle system wasn't the issue
it was that the enemies were never a threat (also the plot was an out-and-out disaster but that's another argument entirely) -- thelefty for analysis crew 2008 imo -tranny I have a third degree burn in flame-o-nomics -Sir Chris ... Copied to Clipboard!

Uh what? -Points of no return (aka permanently missable Djinni with no warning) -It being impossible to not get overleveled -Enemies never threatening you whatsoever outside of the 2nd, final, and post-game bosses -Trying to stuff 8 characters into a game the length of the first GS and literally giving one like, 5 lines -Awful and annoying characters -Terrible, terrible, terrible plot -Even ignoring the main plot, just looking at the world itself you had nonsense like an GS version of the Great Wall of China, built long ago by a civilization "no one remembers," despite this wall not even pretending to exist in the Weyard of TLA -- http://www.nbc.com/parks-and-recreation/exclusives/ron-dancing-animated.gif ... terrible plot, awful characters, and the game being easy aren't exactly any different from the earlier games. dunno on missables so can't answer that one, but... really, golden sun is a pretty easy series all around.
and the biggest thing it fixed was the battle system. particularly the idea of having it so that, if the enemy you attacked dies, your guys will attack the next enemy. instead of, y'know, doing nothing going 'oh well i guess he's dead let me not do anything and get punched by the next guy.' -- The King Wang. GS2 as far as I'm concerned had an enjoyable plot, if nothing else. GS1's wasn't amazing but it was better at least. Dark Dawn literally has you solely on a quest to get a god damn feather for 2/3rds of the game, with little connection to anything else. None of GS2's main characters were bad, and none of the GS1 cast were nearly as bad as Tyrell or Rief, or Himi's complete lack of lines. And DD was insanely easy. The other games had repeatedly threatening boss battles (although less so for the most part if you summon rushed), and you at least had to heal every couple random battles. I'm pretty sure some of the random battles against 5 enemies in Trent during GS1 threatened me more than anything outside the final boss battle of Dark Dawn. The battle system thing isn't even a huge thing anyway. All you had to do was break up/plan out which enemies you attacked. I can see wanting that fixed but that wasn't a huge thing, only a convenience. -- http://www.nbc.com/parks-and-recreation/exclusives/ron-dancing-animated.gif ... Copied to Clipboard!

On paper this is bad design, yeah, but I don't think it hurts Golden Sun. The game is so easy that if it had auto-retargeting the normal battles would be incredibly boring. Without it the player has to pay attention instead of just hammering 'Fight' and if they correctly guess how many hits it takes to drop an enemy and split the party's attacks accordingly they get rewarded with quicker battles and less damage. -- for your phantomile.... ...
