I'm graduating with a Bachelor's this spring. But in the fall, I want to take a one unit class at the local community college just for fun.

So far, all the forms I'm seeing says you have to take 6 units to be considered part time, and 12 units to be considered full time.

I don't want to be part time OR full time. I just want to take a god damn piano class >_<

I think the part time/full time thing is mostly for financial aid or insurance. Just sign up and pay for the class and you should be good to go.

You can, however, you still have to pay whatever fees it costs to actually go to the college for the semester. Financially wise it's a lot better to take a full load etc. If you want a piano class, I suggest trying to find a private teacher who charges hourly/lessons.

Yes, of course you can take just one class, it's just not all that financially smart. I agree, get a private piano tutor instead, it's fairly easy to do and it's a way better option if you're not doing it specifically for a degree.

Yeah, I considered that.

However, the class I'm looking at is only 26.00 dollars, since its just a one unit class that meets for 18 weeks. The cheapest I've found for private lessons is 15 dollars a session (which lasts 30 minutes)

26 sounds about right. I'm taking a 1 unit dance class and that's what it costs for the whole semester.
Funny thing is the teacher is super good and a class with her usually costs 14 dollars for an hour.

Community colleges are cheap here. Or at least were when I went to one 3 years ago

I mean, I go to community college in-state and it's like roughly 100 dollars per credit for me, after fees. And that's quarterly! I just can't even fathom that someone could pay only 260 dollars for a 15-credit schedule, that must not be including fees or something.

Did some more hunting, and here is the fees they have listed:

26 dollars per unit
Student Card Fee: 20 dollars (optional)
Student Health fee: 18
Parking fee: 25 dollars (optional, I'd probably just take a bike there, since its near by)

So, 44 dollars

California Community colleges are among the least expensive in the country. However, I thought that it was 36 dollars per unit now.

Saro, you live in California, right?

Cost per credit. The 63 is an additional fee or whatever they put on.

$26/credit wtf?

So the joke in Community, "dozens of credit hours and almost twice as many dollars" wasn't as exagerrated as I thought.

You'll learn better from private lessons than a class....but heck, if you don't want to get particularly good and it's only $26 for a semester, that's probably the better plan. >_>
