Two months ago, he was huge on getting it sold. We were busting our asses to get it ready and on the market.

Now there's a couple that really wants it and are going to make a final offer this Friday, and now my dad is panicking because he doesn't know what to do next. Where to go, where to live, what to do. I don't think he thought it would sell this quick.

But the problem is that if he doesn't sell it, he owes my mother $700 a month in "rent" via the divorce settlement, and he hasn't paid in a couple months because he can't afford it and is afraid if he doesn't sell it that they'll just take him to court again.

And my mother didn't take her name off the house deed or whatever, even though my dad was awarded the house in the settlement, meaning she has to be present for any signings and stuff, and my dad most certainly doesn't want to contact her and I feel the same way.

So yeah, get home from Vegas and there's a s***-storm ready and waiting. Good times.

Sounds like your dad's divorce attorney did a crappy job. Why in god's name didn't they require your mom to transfer the deed to him fully in the agreement? That is the biggest asset to deal with and the most obvious one. Also...I don't think it's "rent" money your dad owes your mom...it's alimony.

If we were Vulcans and only thought of things logically, it'd be easy to sell the house and get it done with. But no, we squishy humans have these things called "nostalgia" and "emotions" and "family" that get in the way of all that.

Forgive me for asking this in what seems to be a serious topic, but how'd you do? Any tips? And is it really slow this time of year?

I'm leaving for the Vegas for the first time Monday.

My dad did end up with an awful attorney, yes.

And it's not alimony as he already pays $500 (was $1600, got it reduced), it literally is "rent" until he sells the house.

He was awarded the right to live in it, but she still gets half of it when sold.

Will remember this.

Biggest tip: don't get sick like I did. Halved the stuff I wanted to do. I lost $100 between slots and roulette, didn't get to play Black Jack like I wanted to.
