the comics is still character driven, but the pacing is like lightning fast compared to the show. you don't need to have the same things beat into your head every week for 12 weeks before some kind of conflict happens because it is finale a mid-season or end of season finale.

Technically it's on Volume2. Just had the barn incident the like 3 episodes ago.

On to be fair, LTM, even though they're only on volume 2, I don't think the pace is that slow. So what if they're still at the barn? Like you said, it barely resembles the comic now. It's not like NOTHING is happening for 40 minutes each week.

But as a comic fan, it's molasses. They've pretty much done nothing whatsoever. And while I don't dislike the show, I feel like it's inferior, and that makes it....difficult to keep up. I've been having to force myself to keep watching, really, just because I watch it with a bunch of friends.

The show is a snoozer and has been since season 2. I tried to keep with it but I just gave up after the last episode.

Stuff happens but is it actually interesting, especially considering only a small fraction of the cast is likable? Not really. You get like 10 minutes of zombie stuff per episode if you're lucky and 35 minutes of character development (I use this lightly, considering how repetitive it all is) for characters that are bad.

Do you know how awful Jurassic Park would have been had they kept strictly to the book? There would have been strange interludes where the DNA sequences slowly revealed things. And it wouldn't have worked out very well at all.

Comics are an especially strange breed of this, as it's storytelling works in a peculiar way. If you made a movie with the pacing and subtlety of a comic series it would all be either moving extremely quickly or in slow-motion. I think TWD trying to slow the action down and take the dramatic approach is a good thing for the medium. Do I want Shane dead? Of course. But am I mad at the show because he isn't? No, of course not, because I trust the show to do what it needs to to create a great narrative.

Yeah it's probably for the best it doesn't match up to the comic. I agree. It doesn't change that it makes it a little more difficult to get into for someone used to the faster pacing, but a TV show is always going to be slower then the source it is adapting from. At least they are trying something new, instead of just stretching out the existing material to a snails paste. THAT would have sucked. Doesn't change how I feel about it, but I understand, and get why people would really like the change.

You see how much easier it is to have a discussion when you aren't calling people *****es?

He isn't saying that the show is objectively bad, just that if you are used to the comics pacing then it can be a bit jarring. The thing is, if you have read it, you know a lot of the major things that happen, you know most of the issues between the characters, etc. and that makes it seem even slower.
