Yeah but if you romance Tali like you're supposed to, they're just having a chat about the good ol' days. Since that wasn't the case for you I figured you'd be catching them in the act soon. I saw that on youtube. I shouldn't approve, but Garrus is the best, so if Tali can't have Shepard then he'd be the next perfect choice.

And you know what the ending was. Utter disappointment. It's the absolute worst ending imaginable. Even when you choose something different at the end, it's not really a choice. My opinion on the ending:
ME3 is not nearly as fun a game as ME2. ME2 had more character development (with a few exceptions) and had more fun sidequests and was generally more enjoyable to play. What ME3 had going for it was an extremely realistic war storyline. Yes, it was a bit slow at points, with the whole "Help the Turians, who want you to help the Krogan, who want you to cure the genophage" bit in the middle, but overall, it was very realistic and it felt like you're actually in a war. You don't have time to do a bunch of sidequests...people have to be sacrificed sometimes...people die. So when it comes to the ending...no, it's not a happy ending and it IS upsetting. But at the same time, the ending is realistic. One man sacrifices himself to save the galaxy. Yeah there's a bunch of flaws, but life is flawed. Honestly, I feel like having a happy ending would ruin the tone of the entire game up to that point, even if it would've made me happier. -- Captain Tracy Mombaro and Agent Mirasuke Inhara: Two of the toughest, hottest furrs you'll ever meet. ... Oh man... that ending. I beat the game last night and...
"There's just no closure, no happiness, no nothing. It sucks. After everything we've been through, after getting so invested and immersed, I just really wanted it to wrap up nicely." That about sums it up for me too. I have so many problems with this ending on so many different levels... right now I think I'd say it's the worst ending I've ever seen, and I really don't think it's hyperbole coming from it being so fresh in my mind. It's been what, over 4 years of investment into the series, and that's how it ends? It's really a fantastic game right up until the last 5-10 minutes. As it is, I'm trying to not let that ending color my opinion of the rest of the game, or even the series as a whole, because I know that's really unfair and I shouldn't be doing that, but... it's proving challenging at the moment. Think it might give ME2 the advantage for my favorite game in the series whereas before ME3 had a real shot at taking it. -- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? I agree. It is indeed the worst ending I've ever seen. And when I finished the game I was just so pissed that I didn't even want to look at it anymore. But as I said the game was incredibly spectacular up until the very end where it all just fell apart after going up to the Citadel. I imagined up my own ending and forced myself to believe that's what really happened.
I really put more faith in Bioware. They did such a good job with everything else, it's really heart breaking to see them completely bomb in such a terrible way. I really do hope they come out with some DLC that gives us a true ending, or preferably multiple endings like it should have been in the first place. -- ~Halo Give into the Night. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/ShadowHalo/haloshadow1.gif ... I'm actually okay with the game to that point. Though maybe it's because I saw that coming all the way back from the Mars Archive. The moment I saw Paragon/Renegade options in the talks with The Illusive Man I figured something like that would be coming eventually. Though, after one of those choices in the final confrontation, I did think they were going to give you someone you simply couldn't talk out of it instead.
I think if the game ended there, right after that conversation, it'd be a lot better. I mean, I'd still have been angry that there wasn't really any closure, at least not the kind I expected/wanted, but if you then showed me what we actually got... That whole ending sequence was just surreal and beyond not even having closure, it just raises too many questions, if not plot holes. I mean, for the ending cutscene, I had Tali step out of the Normandy at the end. ...Which, if I recall correctly, she should still be on Earth, with Garrus, and the rest of the forces who were charging the beam. I suppose it's possible that Joker picked them up and then decided... what... to flee the system in the middle of the decisive battle in the war, leaving Shepard behind? That sure doesn't sound in-character for him (or Tali, or Garrus). My impression at the time was that maybe the Earth team you took was actually going to die, and that was actually a thought that occurred to me partway through the mission as a possibility. I don't think I was in any way prepared for what actually happened. And that's just one problem I had with all this. From: Inviso | #364 Slow? That part of the game was incredible. But yeah, I'm not nearly as outraged at the way the game ended as most people seem to be. I feel very ambivalent about how it ended. Not saying I thought it was a good ending. It was pretty unsatisfying, but still, I'm left feeling indifferent about it. It would've been far more insulting if the Reapers had turned out to be some unbeatable foe after all. 'sorry you just spent three games trying to figure out how to stop the Reapers turns out they can't be stopped after all LOL ganked' BioWare had been talking up ME3 being the end of Shepard's story but not necessarily the end of the series, so I went into it with the idea that it wasn't going to be a happy ending that neatly wrapped things up. Part of me expected him to die at the end, so whatever. From: xp1337 | #368 Or he managed to pick them up beforehand and then tried to flee the system when he saw stuff starting to go haywire. I don't really feel like I "get" what happened there at the end. Too vague. I dunno. Maybe Harbinger left when he thought everyone near the beam was dead. Beats me. Yeah, but Harbinger seemed to know what he was doing. I mean, the extent he went to confirm Shepard's death in ME2 makes me feel like he'd make extra sure in ME3 by, I dunno, firing again. Everything just started getting increasingly weird starting with Harbinger taking that shot. I mean, I can overlook that whole part of the ending... if not for the whole "Normandy crashes on an unknown planet with the entire crew somehow" part. I mean, like I said, it dawned on me that it was entirely possible you'd lose the party members you took on the final part of the Earth mission, and I would have been okay with that (and losing Shepard too), but then... the Catalyst happened. I apologize for going on even more of a rant, but talking about it a bit more has increased my need to vent. >_>
Beyond even the lack of closure, the ending with the Catalyst just seemed so... out-of-place for Shepard. Or at least the Shepard I had played for the entire rest of the series. Shepard had basically spent the entire series talking everyone out of their ideas whenever they were extreme or sounded like they needed to settle for a lesser of two evils. Then the Catalyst comes along, and Shepard just pretty much accepts everything it tells him, and doesn't even really try to argue with it. It tells you that organics and synthetics can't coexist, and Shepard just doesn't really argue it. The same Shepard (in my case) who basically talked the Geth and Quarians into peace against all odds. Even if the Catalyst was like, "That was the exception, it'll happen again" it feels like there should be an option that goes something like, "Yeah, well, that's our choice to make, not yours. We'll take our chances." I could go on even more about other things, but... I really need to stop dwelling on this, if I can. <_< I'd rather have had the Reapers won, it'd be easier for me to rationalize how/why that happened, and would have made more sense. -- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? ...Isn't that one of the dialogue wheel options exactly? Pretty sure one of the options is "We'll take our chances." But it doesn't do anything is what I mean. You're still left with the Control Reapers/Destroy Reapers/Synthesis options. When, in theory, I see no reason why you couldn't just tell the Catalyst to take the Reapers and go away. It is in charge of them, but instead it passes the choice to you and makes you pick one of the three choices it presents. Edit: Honestly, the exact wording of the dialogue options escapes me at the moment, because I think I was basically going "Oh no... oh no..." as soon as I saw the Catalyst appear. Which started being replaced by increasing annoyance as Shepard didn't bring up the Quarian/Geth situation against the Catalyst's organic/synthetic assertion. -- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? I may have to rewatch that entire scene with a clear head then, instead of one where I was watching my expectations crumble, because perhaps you're right. Not that it would change my opinion that it was a pretty awful direction to go in at all. There was no need to introduce the Catalyst as a sentient entity in the first place. The Crucible just being some kind of superweapon was enough.
