I think it'd be a fair bit more reasonable to say that society shouldn't paint single-parenthood as an acceptable choice to make. Something to be avoided if necessary, but not necessarily the end of the world like SMuffin thinks.

~30% of children 17 years or younger in the US live in homes without both parents, and ~80% of those are working parents. 80% of your failure demographic are both working, and raising a child. He took care of everything financially, including always keeping a roof over our heads, making sure we always had food, etc. All the while our mother never had a job for more than a few weeks and spent most of her time drunk.
