I am not the best player of fighting games, but I sure as hell know that forcing you to pay to unlock characters prevents you from training against them or getting a feel for how to play them or how they will be played. It prevents you from being competitive.

Except that won't prove anything. I don't play competitively but I still know the field. I never said not having characters wouldn't harm your competitive playing(which is untrue), I said you paid for a product and got your moneys worth already, if you want more than you pay for more(which is absolutely true).

Wasn't gonna post in this topic, but... With SFxT, you ARE getting what you paid for. They never falsely advertised the characters as being in the game already. You can't pay for something that wasn't advertised as being part of the product you're buying.

I didn't play much vanilla SF2 or CE so I can't know for sure, but my guess is they made the boss characters to be hard and unbalanced, and thought it wouldn't be fair to have them playable. then people clamored to have them playable so they balanced them for the rest of the releases. Akuma in later iterations of SF2 and Gill in SF3 were similar. those were playable if you went out of your way, but obviously weren't balanced against the rest of the characters and weren't expected to see use in competitive play.

that's my best guess, and also not hard to come up with! it shouldn't be difficult to see why that's different than locking away a decent fraction of the cast, with the expectation of making them playable shortly after for extra money.

They pretty clearly weren't meant to be playable until SF2 ended up being a huge success and Capcom decided to start milking it.

I mean take one look at Vega's wall dive. He wasn't planned to be playable on any other stage at first.
