In addition to the Capcom bias, VF has character design working against it imo.

VF4 is one of my favorite games, even at a super casual level but damn if that isn't one of the blandest FG casts out there.

Virtua Fighter is something that's generally more fun to play than to watch

so much in the way of mindgames, even when it looks like nothing's really happening the players have to be intensely into it

last time i played VF even semi-regularly was probably vf1, where i played kagemaru, the most generic-looking ninja ever.
