12. Grunt
Grunt is hard to rank. He's a krogan, and everyone loves krogan. He's a good squadmate to bring with you in 2, I know I bring him quite a bit because he's a walking tank, he's a krogan and he has some funny things to say. However we are at the point in the rankings where I am legitimately very fond of every character left. Grunt just seems to come a little bit short because he's kind of just a badass. He has more character than Zaeed and some of the others but there just isn't enough there. I do enjoy his loyalty mission for both the plot and the action.

His appearance in ME3 is super badass, no way around it. I literally had a :o face on when he rushed into the crowd of ravagers. When he came back bloody as hell i fist-pumped super hard. He also apparently sends this email but I never got it:

THas a goood fight ShUpurd. You cant hear em but I;ve goht ARLlakh co,rnpany chantin SHEPAR SHEPAR your name you know. as we down some ryNCOL to heal my woundS^&!!( ryCNol!
Whear are yOu?
SHEPERD S HEPAURD SHEPARUD!!!

i don't know if you just get that if he dies or what the deal is but its either fairly amusing or sad depending on the circumstances I guess.

2 funny grunt things from ME2
(the first one with Zaeed especially)

Nope, she's decent in ME2 and a cut above her ME2 self in ME3. :P

Well I'm accustomed to that opinion, so I'll just take it all in stride. :)

All that truly matters in the end is that she's Casey Hudson's favorite squadmate, so whether we like it or not she's one of the most likely characters of all to receive a next-gen spinoff dance game.

Grunt's pretty great, but his Loyalty Mission was one of the weaker ones.

Also he only sends you that e-mail in ME3 if you choose the option that causes Aralahk Company to survive.

Yeah, those are good, but that's pretty much all it has going for it. Well, other than Shepard headbutting that one krogan.

Most of the other Loyalty Missions have more going for them.

11. James Vega
This one might not be popular but hey, I like him.

this video by itself is enough reason. In all seriousness I think most of us didn't like him at the beginning and it isn't hard to see why. He seemed like some random brainless jock here for the newbies to identify with. Vega's biggest flaw just ended up being only having one game. It was also the game with probably the least character development (for the most part), but James makes the most of what he got.

I may be alone in this but I find his backstory interesting.. He's like Shepard with more personality, having to make very difficult decisions, and his choice ends up being the wrong one. I can see how that would be hard to live with. I loved when he crashed the shuttle to save the data.. I loved freaking him out by flirting with him. He was just a funny character. Hes solid in battle too.

Vega may not get a ton of screen time but i'll be damned if he didn't grow of me quite a bit.

10. Javik
Javik is fantastically hilarious and is always good for a few quotes if you bring him with you. He was free for me, his mission was ok and I enjoyed his presence. A lot of people complained about day 1 dlc but that is a little too whiny for me. It's hard to say what it was that makes Javik so good. If you've used him, you know. He's hilarious and thats kinda all there is to it. He's also a badass in combat although i wish all his biotics were green.

I never thought for a second that we would be able to use a Prothean until just before ME3 came out. So it was kinda neat to talk to an actual Porthean and fight along side one. I was with Liara though, in being somewhat dissapointed.

9. Thane Krios
The first thing you notice about Thane (other than his oddly Scandinavian name) is his character design, which is fantastic. He just looks really, really cool. I love his outfit and the lizard or maybe even fish like quality of his skin and the colors contrast really well and he just looks like a baller. His personality fits his looks and he's a pretty cool guy.

I do like his back story but I don't like Thane's recruitment quest. I also find the second half of his loyalty quest to be super buggy. Its a shame because its pretty good otherwise but i hate how often i've had to restart it. He's not very useful in battle though which is always a disappointment.

His appearance in ME3 is short but damn if it isn't epic. And tear-jerking. I don't need to explain.

I just wish Thane had more personality when on missions and stuff. He just seems a little dry. He's an awesome character and I love him but at this high up on the list we are splitting hairs.

8. Kasumi Goto
I love Kasumi. Everyone loves Kasumi. Kasumi is hilarious and adorable. She has a super fun loyalty mission. The only real problem is screentime. She only is playable in ME2. She doesn't have a (real) recruitment mission. She was the precursor to ME3 in terms of how you talk to her on the ship although she has the same amount of dialogue if you actually do bring her with you.

I love Hock's party as a mission. So much fun, and so different than almost everything else in the game. My favorite part is the vault, with you and Kasumi discussing various pieces of stolen art and other memorabilia. DAMN YOU HOCK. Also due to this mission you get by far my favorite SMG.

She's also pretty awesome in Mass Effect 3. She continues to be adorable and hilarious... I love Kasumi. However Kasumi's problem keeps coming down to screen time. The top 7 character are all incredible, they would be my favorite character in almost every other game. Being 8 is not bad at all, the top 7 are just that good that you need more screen time to beat them. Kasumi would probably move up to like 3 or 4 with more screen time but oh well.

7. Urdnot Wrex
This is where it gets difficult. I love all 7 of the characters left. They are all so fantastic that it is almost hard to separate them. Any 7 of these characters could easily be number 1 on another list. All 7 are in my top 25 favorite video games characters. I say all of this because I know a ton of people are annoyed by this ranking.

Wrex is fantastic. He is of this brutish, ugly race but still stands for the honor and tradition the Krogan used to stand for. He pretty much single-handidly brings the Krogan from warring factions who are quickly going down the tubes to a proud recovering race with a bright future and actual relations with other races. His growth from merc to leader to legend is kinda neat and mirrors shep in a way.

He has his awesome one-liners and stories and whatnot but he is hurt by being the only character not to return from ME1 as re-playable. It makes sense in story terms and it kinda is even better for him as a character but it sucks for the player to lose the guy who might have been the most popular after ME1 for good. He probably would have been very similar to the Korgan Vanguard in ME3 gameplay wise and I would have taken that for sure.

6. EDI
Oh this isn't fun. It's times like this I'm glad I don't have to rank Joker and Anderson because that is kinda what ranking EDI is like. (On that note, this is probably about where Joker would rank.) It's hard to seperate what EDI did in ME2 and 3 because it is almost an entirely new character but replaying ME2 afterwords it really isn't that different. I don't know. It is kind of hard to explain. EDI starts off as a simple AI, and as teh game progresses she starts to get a personality. EDI has some of the funniest dialogue in the series. It is also really fun to see her realationship with Joker grow.

And than Mass Effect 3 happens and woah. EDI gets a body, and not just any body. As Legion so aptly puts it, the body is "inefficient because it is top-heavy and lacks an external epidermis which would be necessary for infiltration." EDI continues to have her awesome dialogue, including one of the best lines in the game. If Shep and Tali are dating, they will flirt on the Geth Dreadnought, until EDI barges in with "You do not need to be circumspect. I am aware that you and Tali became physically intimate during the fight against the Collectors." I literally had to pause the game for a minute I was laughing so hard. EDI is also awesome in combat, with the useful Overload/Incinerate combo, making her a master of taking out turrets, which my Solider had troubles with at times.

The only real reason EDI isn't higher is because the other 5 are so awesome and she's only playable in 3, and only a real character in 3, if that makes sense.
