Windurst had it worst in EVERYTHING. Our jeuno route was worst BECAUSE RAPTORS.

The one benefit? Windurst made the most money because of the item drops around wu durst. Tons of great synth items and high drop rates. We also could re sell spells for double to triple the price in sandoria and jeuno.

My ps2 had a mule that sat in Jeuno and just sold windurst products. I think I funded at least 5 people's Lu Shang rod by selling moat carp stacks cheaper than the auction house. Thankfully you could fish for moat carp inside windurst and catch them everytime

Come to think of it, Windurst had it good. We also had the best music.

Another thing:

I love how the best fishing spots were always the most dangerous places. The Boat to Valkrum is where legendary fish existed but you could farm up things that murder everyone.

Qufim had great spots but random undead and elements massacred you.

And the best fishing spot of all time was located deep into the heart of Yhotar Jungle in a sea cave where everything could one shot you and everything aggro'd. You had to level a white Mage to 25 for the sole purpose of sneak and stealth to this tiny little lake in the very bottom of the cave. There was one spot on the backside where monsters never came.

200k a trip but Jesus they made you work for it.

Sandy's music was the greatest thing. So regal, so majestic. Perfect.

Heavens Tower best music in game. Period.

Anyone remember Dragoon before nerfs? Sub job samurai, meditate, penta thrust, auto attack auto attack, penta thrust. Meditate, pent thrust. Repeat.

So good.

Then their came the dark days when Ninja first came out and 5 ranger/ninjas could kill things 7-8 levels higher than themselves. Paladins were so useless I actually leveled ninja just so I could do ranger statics.

This makes me miss my BRD/WHM.

FFXI had a ton of problems with it (my biggest gripe was just the lack of diversity in enemies...I mean honestly, how many different colors/size of crabs did we need? That along with so many people only willing to grind on the easiest enemies...), but man....getting those groups that just synched up and blasted through anything and everything we came across.....

So much fun.

Ulti I've had great MOBA teams. The Reason it doesn't compare is because you are facing off against other human beings. If you're better than their best player odds are you can carry the game.

I don't care how good you are at FFXI. I don't care if you had the best gear possible. I'd you had one weak link your party would lose so much efficiency. FFXI punished inefficiency harshly.

The best were those times where you would go to Yhotar Jungle around 10 pm western time and be the only party in the area. You could just feast on everything in the area and never stop. The downside? Going to the Auction House and realizing your next set of +1 gear would cost 500k.

And Extha, Lu Shangs Rod took me weeks to get. I fished for it once and bought it once. Never has an item been so rewarding. You make the money back in a matter of days because Lu Shangs Rod never failed and always caught the best fish. Put it this way: if I bought the 2nd best rod for catching sushi fish I could ONLY catch those fish and if I tried for anything else my rod would breAk. That meant I had to fish in places that only had those fish. Those places sucked. Badly.

Once you got Lu Shangs everything else was gravy. One fishing day a week could set you up for a month. It got so good that I was throwing away thousands of dollars of other fish because I needed more room for sushi fish.

Also, will there ever be an MMO where Paladins aren't OP?

When you went through Valkurm Dunes with your Warrior you would get massacred by the crabs and goblins. You went back as your Paladin and would afk tank. Wights would aggro and you'd say F IT I'll tank it.

There reached a point at level 30 where your armor and skills were so good you would never die. It wouldn't even be close.

Again, FFXI always rewarded their ridiculous tasks with an OP item.

The BCNMs were crazy hard but the items you could get were insane for the level you got them.
Remember how hard it was to get Utsusemi Ichi? You were rewarded with the most retarded skill of all time.
Paladin quest, RSE items,etc.

Lu Shangs was harder and more tedious than all of them but the prize was better than anything in this game. You basically tripled your money making abilities and never had to worry about drops or competition.

Omg. crabs I know. I forget to complain about this anyways here is what I basically leveled on (Basically from 10+)

Level 10 to 18 = Valkurm Dunes.

Everyone levels here. Targets were Lizards and Goblins. But then crabs and pugils later on. Of course, there was that goblin butcher that made lower levels wipe entire parties. Flies were targets due to how frail they were, but for some reason not a lot of parties took them on. Also, a night those ghost monsters came out, obviously we didn't fight those.

There was also a cave near the windurst middle zone (the one where the teleport is). There were worms some lower levels fought.

Level 18 to 23 = Quiffim and in the tower.
Well, as you probably know the first thing you fight here are worms and well...more crabs. Later on you fight well... more pugils. And then you can go in the tower and fight uhhh more goblins. Oh but you do get to fight giants which is pretty neat.

Level 24 to 26 = Yuhtunga Jungle and 26 to 30 = Yhoatar Jungle
I'd like to point out that this is one of the only times I remember where mandragoras were targets for fighting. This is probably due to the fact that ninja's don't have utusemi ni at this point. we also fought uhh more goblins.

Level 30 to 33= Altepta
We killed beatles. A brand new enemy for the most part!

Level 33 to 35 = Garilage S***adel.
Remember how bad dunes was? For some reason this place add heaven. Also those holes in the middle of the pulls didn't make things any easier. I killed bats (hey new enemies) also more beatles.

Level 35 to upper 40s = Crawler's Nest
God, I was in here for so long. Killed crawlers, obviously. Also beatles later on. This place had some extremely long pull. (At times I would also level in the desert on... more beatles.

Level 49 to mid 50s = Boyahda Tree
Well we killed spiders...and more crabs.

Low 50s to mid 50s = Kuftal Tunnel
MORE CRABS

Mid 50s to 60ish = Cape terrigan. and then a little later whatever zone was right after it
Got to fight dinosaurs, pretty cool. I really liked this because they too a ton of damage from dancing edge (Some of them would skyrocket like 1500 point hits etc). Also more fish... later chickens.

Low 60s to high 60s = Boyahda Tree
CRABS MORE CRABS. There were mandragoras too, but we rarely fought them. Later I remember goobues. They were pretty cool because they dropped tree cuttings which sold for quite a bit. An elemental also spawned in the area.

70+ Anywhere I could find mobs
Leveling spots were terrible at this range. Lots of undead though.

KRT parties were so bad unless it was 4 monks a white Mage/red Mage and a bard. Not as bad as ro'maeve at least. Some of the leveling spots in sky were bad as hell too. Golems with the switches and the patrolling balls and elementals. Ugh!

yeah they took away all that made it worth playing, plus the much smaller player base really made it less of an experience.

FFXI forced you to meet new people and work with them, even the most mundane tasks took a group.

FFXI always gave you multiple places to level it was just about being creative. For instance: you could level in Davoi on those orcs you dodged in the Paladin quest. Windurstians leveled in Tahrongi Canyon and the early areas of Meriphataud Mountains and skipped Valkrum altogether.

Also, unique parties worked wonders. You could level off skeletons 8 levels higher than yourselves with monks and a bard. black mages and a ninja could burst crabs since they had no accuracy.

The worst thing people ever did was flock to the Citadel at level 32. So dumb. It was crowded, always got bad pulls, and the holes in the ground were death. Altepa and Gustsv Tunnel were easier and had less people but higher travel times.

Once again, FFXI rewarded the people who went the extra mile.

FFXI was Also the first game to make Warriors challenging and complicated. Warriors had all the weapons but each one was good at different times against different mobs. They also needed to have 4 sub jobs. Great Axes dominated early on when mobs had no defense or evasion and your sub job was monk for the health and defense. Then double axes took over at level 20 to 30 when the ninja dual wield passive kicked in. Then you had to level thief because sneak attack plus great axe was the biggest damage. Then Dual Wield 2 kicked in at 50 and so on. 50 to 75 you needed thief for trick attack and samurai for meditate and accuracy.

Thats 4 jobs you had to level to at least 25 and 2 jobs you needed at 37

Not to mention having to cap out 2 weapons to max.

Warriors weren't just the sword and shield tanks or berserking bruisers. They were both depending on the situation.

As for returning it's pointless. There haven't been new players in years and they've removed all the ridiculous challenge that made the game fun.

nd yeah I don't remember ever going to Altepa Desert, Boyahda Tree or Cape Terrigan.. I don't exactly remember where I went for those levels, but it wasn't those places! I could look up what I ended up doing.

I did the Citadel, but I distinctly remember getting a few really really good parties with really good camps, and it was just a breeze for me.

You never had to go directly to Yuhtunga from Qufim, you could grab a few more levels in Delkfutt's Tower. Quicksand Caves was where I spent a few levels in place of Boyahda/Kuftal. Anticas were ****in' bastards.

Also, for those who played before the infamous MPK fixing patch, Crawlers' Nest was just NOT worth the time and effort. Ridiculous stuff happened before they fixed that.

I trained 25 crawlers to this guy once.

Being a dick was funny because of the cost of dying and because everyone took it like a champ. Trolling wasn't looked down upon, it was laughed at when it was good.

But yeah you had plenty of spaces to level. They just took specific teams and a little effort. Like, Altepa Desert need 5 people who had been to there so White Mages could Teleport.
