Nintendo would never put any of their franchises on a non-Nintendo system. The same thing applies to Sony and Microsoft, where they would never put their franchises on non-Sony and non-Microsoft systems.

Everquest, DC Universe, and other MMOs are SOE products that are on Windows, a Microsoft system.

I wouldn't count PCs as a Microsoft system if it has a Microsoft OS installed on it.

But that's still a long ways off.

SOE was acquired by Sony Corporation but is not a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment. So that doesn't really count.

And, Sony Electronics makes PCs, so you could say...

Not a long ways off it will literally never happen. Despite what this dumb poll would have you believe financially speaking Nintendo has been more successful this gen than they have ever been.

The Wii-U probably won't be as successful as the Wii, but Nintendo is no where near their end. Many people held out on the HD systems this gen (or bought them near the middle or end) because they were pretty overpriced (and I would bet most didn't buy an HD TV until at least the end of the gen) when you could buy a motion controlled system for much cheaper and also had a few relevant non HD games for PC. So number 1, Nintendo's not only adding HD, their going to combine it with motion controls (along with 1:1 motion) and the rest of the new aspects I'm about to mention. Number 2, there's the tablet part of the system, tablets I would say are probably almost useless (at least by themselves), but if they're gona combine it with games (or things) I already like, there's not much of a better way to test them out and make sure I'm not missing anything since I'm not extremely confident of their uselessness (and I'm pretty sure there are many people who would agree). Then there's what I think is gona be the one of, if not the most important, things, motion controlled games combined directly with the tablet, like golf, and if they make a stand for the tablet, that will probably also open up many more combinations.

They still dominate handheld so even if they abandon consoles they still have that to fall back on.

Didn't the DS outsell the 360, PS3, and the Wii?

I wasn't counting handhelds, but if you count them, they're definitely not going out anytime soon.

It will never happen as long as the industry looks anything like it does today. The only way it could ever happen is if the industry undergoes a gigantic change. Something like virtual reality becoming the norm or home consoles getting completely eclipsed by mobile gaming.

If there's market for Mario games when Nintendo pulls out of the game system business, they will be on other systems.

Handhelds and consoles are completely different and can't be fairly compared.

Not to mention Nintendo is losing its stranglehold on the handheld market too, albeit slowly, because smartphones are becoming a major source for handheld gaming, like it or not :/

It's not that other handheld devices aren't also extremely relevant even for gaming, it's that Nintendo's handheld experience, at least at the moment, is pretty much too unique to fully replicate on a standard handheld device like a phone or netbook (or tablet(apply or tablet to any place that says phone or netbook)). Dual cameras (for games like system flaw), gyro sensor (motion controls), pen for touch screen, dual screens, 3d, and pretty much a full PS2 controller in the palm of your hand on a handheld device (which include for the most part dual analog). Yes, some of this stuff can be done on your phone or netbook, and the 3DS is missing some stuff, like a small keyboard, but to fully replicate that experience on a phone or netbook and always have to carry it around, you're probably going to be dealing with too bulky of a device. Then you have the fact that their device is still relevant while also having the recent serge (somewhat recent) in handheld (mostly phone) popularity in general, and the fact that they still probably have more good games on it then a phone (and probably netbook).
