I've actually got a first aid/CPR/aed certified card and I honestly don't think even they taught us to give an aspirin. I mean, I'd know not to give an ibuprofen too, but the bigger plan they have for teaching is if they go nonresponsive + call a professional.

The fact that so few people know that Aspirin is a blood-thinner astounds me.

Then again while I do know that fact I wouldn't have been aware before this topic that it's the only painkiller with those properties.

also I do not understand this general reaction to commodore topics which is to try and tell him why he's wrong about everything but b8 needs to get their act together on that.

I knew why aspirin works in this situation and ibuprofen wouldn't but like foolmo said, I've seen all of Scrubs twice through.

In most states, even EMTs can't give aspirin any more without med control.

Getting out of the way to not crowd someone who had a heart attack and staying close enough in case he needed CPR are two key signs of a sociopath.

It's not really a general reaction. Most people are just like "I didn't know aspirin was a blood thinner," which is fine. Then you have wg64Z and Xbyte, who are known trolls, and SHM, who is a known SHM.

So basically AfroSquirrel is the only person criticizing him.

Both ibuprofen and advil help with pain/headaches. Washer fluid does not help your car run.

All I remember is a commercial once where an old guy playing tennis fell over and they were like 'omg give him Aspirin'

Then again I also remember an episode of House where he was stuck on an airplane with a patient and he made the passengers give him any medications they had, just in case some of it would help, so I've had it equally instilled into me that medications can be magic in all situations

in my experience, a good number of people seem to think meds like ibuprofen and acetaminophen are classified as "asprin" and don't know the differences

"i have a headache"
"take some asprin"
"okay does anyone have advil"

This. But apparently in their society everyone working out at the gym should be properly educated on all OTC drugs. If not, LOL ignorance.

But then again, if we stopped judging people and started educating them on the spot ('Ibuprofen would not work, I need aspirin since it is a blood thinner'), there would be less ignorant people around to make ourselves feel superior! And then people like MRNICE and Commodore would have no reason to get up in the morning, and eventually lose the will to come to B8.

I think this topic has proven that it is NOT common knowledge. I knew, from commercials, that Asprin can help during a heart attack. I did NOT know that it was because it was a blood thinner while other pain relievers are not. If I was in that scenario and I had an Ibuprofen I would have offered it. And I would have thought the guy who gave me a death stare was being a pompous ass.
