Lupin Caught in a Trap

A couple of things I've been noticing.

1 - The artwork and animation has completely changed since Miyazaki and co took over after episode 13. They are starting to look very much like their Series 2 counterparts. Goemon and Jigen in particular have changed quite a bit. Goemon used to have a thinner face and was darker.

2 - The tone has completely shifted. It's also very much like series 2 now, though still not as slapstickish.

I liked this episode quite a bit. I honeslty don't know why I keep being taken off guard by Fujiko backstabbings. This one in particular was pretty obvious, since she was the one who introduced Lupin and friends.

The heist was quite good, I thought. I especially loved Jigen's conversation with the armored car driver.

Keep an Eye on the Beauty Contest

Holy crap. This episode was amazing. Goemon's rampage was hilariously awesome. I noticed another concept that was later re-used in Cagliostro:
-Posing as a camera crew and using Zenigata who is chasing "Lupin", so they can justify recording something they're not suppose to
Just a great episode. Lupin's plan was masterful.

Which Third Generation Will Prevail?
This was a lot better of an episode than I expected, based on the preview. The three way rivalry between Zenigata and the french guy (can't remember his name >_<) and Lupin was hilariously awesome. Especially the final part of the episode.

It's a shame that this rivalry probably isn't further developed

Catch the Phony Lupin

Decent episode. I felt bad that Lupin screwed everyone over at the end of the episode though I guess they had it coming since they were using his name like that.

Zenigata had some decent moments in the episode.

I wonder how Lupin pulled off smoking out the shrine. I mean, everyone was watching him the entire time, and he didn't know where the book was until then. I guess he's just that good

I think this is the first episode that hasn't had Jigen or Fujiko in it. Just Lupin and Zenigata.]

Rescue the Tomboyish Girl

This episode showed Lupins more gentlemanly side. Overall a decent episode. The interactions between the Rie and Lupin felt very natural. The kidnapper vs Zenigata vs Lupin was pretty cool. What was neat was that this entire episode was one long chase. I especially enjoyed the train sequences, especially when the Zenigata switches the track. Some great animaton occured then.

The First Move Wins Computer Operation

The first line was crazy

"I'm the FBI computer engineer Commissioner Gordon"

BATMAN!?!?!?!?!? Or just weird subbers?

Anyway, it was a good episode. Poor Zenigata. I think that if he HAD followed the plan the first time it would have worked, because Lupin WAS underestimating the computer, but that second time, Zenigata probably should have arrested him while he was working the computer, like he wanted to.

Zenigata's stream of tears the entire time were hilarious. It must have sucked for him to have to sit there watching Lupin the entire time

The Great Gold Showdown

The final episode :(

The stakes were pretty high for Zenigata. I actually really wanted him to catch Lupin because I didn't want him to resign. I loved the scene between him and the chief. Zenigata brought up a good point. He's done his job twice. He managed to capture Lupin and imprison him twice and the police department screwed that up. Why should their failures be his failures :(

The plot twist at the end of the episode where Lupin's plan backfired was hilarious. I honestly didn't expect that.

Series Talk
This was a pretty good series overall. It's funny how different the second half is compared to the first half. The first half was pretty good, but overall, I just prefer the second half at the end of the day. The artwork and animation is just a lot better, and I like the stories more. I do like that this show isn't as slapstickish as Series Two though. Lupin just comes off as more slick and clever in this. Also, Short Haired Fujiko is my favorite Fujiko

I don't think my character ranking has changed since the one i posted earler, though I do like Fujiko more, especially Second Half Fujiko

Also, Lupin's Japanese voice actor is awesome. Just the right mix of suave and sleeze.

Hell yeah, he's a legend. I do also dig the second Lupin who's been voicing him since the mid-90s. The whole cast has been great, it's crazy how long they did it, and we've still got the original Jigen working too.

One of my fav series, it's so ahead of it's time, there's no other anime from the early 70s that has aged as well I've seen.

Overall I prefer the first half a bit since it's so different and has more emotion to it I think, and my fav episode is the Pycal one (ep 2). I forget which episode was it when the Lupin gang had explosives strapped to their wrists and had to do stuff? One of my favs. Love the whole show though.

Where to now, gonna watch all the annuals and movies? gooood stuff. All 155 episodes of the red jacket series? =D (I've only watched half of those so far myself)
