No... just no. How it is possible to not have Lily last, I will never understand.

I also don't get the near universal Marshall love. Most of his storylines involve Lily, thus dragging him down imo. He's good when not associated with Lily, but that doesn't happen enough.

Yeah you don't realize just how tenuous the show actually being entertaining is. None of the characters can really stand on their own and they all really suck except together.

Lily isn't that bad. Robin is the worst. Barney and Marshall are the best and the only reasons the show is good. Ted may have some good moments but overall he's pretty bland. He ranks right there with Lily while Robin is way lower.

It doesn't help that every plot point with half of the cast is already resolved. We know Ted won't marry any of these chicks, we know he builds a building and gets married and has kids.

We know Lily and Marshall are married, and whether or not they have kids (which has been resolved) is the only real big point of interest with them.

Which leaves us with Robin and Barney.

Barney is really the face of the show, and the reason it has gotten so far. And he was an extremely static character until season 6. All of his recent development is great, and carries the show.

They chose to use Robin as a plot device.

Season 8 is going to be really dull, and should be the last one.

Yeah I agree with everything you have said. Sitcoms should face it. You can either be center of the road funniness wise and go for a longtime ( like pretty much any Chuck Lorre sitcom), be unfunny but appeal to the lower class (hey there The Middle), or you can be special and run for short time (Like Dead Like Me)

Scrubs, Friends, How I met Your Mother are all painful to stick with because for something that so good early and become so horribly bad later on and be forced to use cheap overblown drama to keep itself going. Id much rather they die a dignified death than see that happen.

I equate Robin with Rachel, in that they're the "hot" girl characters which allows them to conceal the fact that there's little of substance underneath their exteriors.

Apart from the whole "Canadian tomboy" thing, which mostly manifests itself externally, I don't find a lot to like personally about Robin. Lily has her moments but she is more captivating, and most of the time endearing.

I haven't seen beyond the beginning of Season 5, so my opinions of Barney and Robin are likely subject to change.

I love Jason Segel.

You know, I used to think Ted was actually worse than Lily but now I'm not sure. Maybe it's only because I just re-watched that episode where she works as Ted's assistant and almost gets everyone fired, though.

The writers still know how to throw curveballs. Also, this is one of the few tv shows that has made me cry.
