Anyhoo, Shu over and done with. Wei time! Oh, and thank goodness they improved Yoshimoto Imagawa. Trying to land his power attack was a nightmare in WO1.

SW3 feels sooooooooooo much better with the classic controller pro. I am starting to get used to the slower pace of battles, too. Aside from the gimped juggling and super weak archers, this game is fantastic.
Also, Dynasty Tactics. Thinking about checking that game out. Seems like I can get it for around $10 on the internets! Anyone here play it much back in the day?

Dynasty Tactics, and I believe there's a Dynasty Tactics 2, were really fun.
To be honest, I don't entirely remember how they were played, my memory says something like an Advance Wars game. If you've ever played Romance of the Three Kingdoms X, it's kind of like that if you took out all the kingdom maintenance stuff and just had battles. I'd say give it a try if you find it cheap. Basically you have a grid map and units that you move around the map and I believe there's some sort of strength/weakness triangle with horse, bow, and sword units. I forget if DT has stuff like pikes or spears.

I've started playing on Hard mode...and man, this game is actually tough. Enemies with spears will just poke you mid-combo all day, so it's not just mashing square for easy wins. Even peons will block, too. Also, fighting Mitsuhide on Nobunaga's last mission was pretty annoying because he has a ton of health and defense and doesn't flinch when you hit him. THERE'S ALSO A TIME LIMIT and he does a ton of damage to you with one combo. Still, I think it's a better balance than DW7's difficulty (i.e. none lol) or WO3's (instead death for one split-second mistake).
It seems like there's no reason to use Power weapons. Every character has a Power, Speed, and Normal weapon. Power weapons have higher attack, but are slower, Speed weapons attack faster but have much less attack power, and Normal is somewhere in between. The problem is, Power weapons are just so slow and you're going to get poked out of pretty much everything that the damage you do with one hit isn't enough to compensate for interrupted combos. Ehh.

It's a lot more fun than I expected. My plan was just to blow through all the campaigns just so I had an idea of who the characters were, but it's got more to it than I expected.

This game is also a lot nicer to you if you die in battle. You keep any experience and items you gained so you don't end up wasting a bajillion hours of your life like with WO3.
augh

aww yeah SW characters with their super long square strings
Kai in particular is just so fun to use because she starts off with just some typical slashes and by the 6th or 7th square her sword whip is flying all over the place and destroying everything in sight
her C8 is the best
too bad her musou is borderline useless against officers since they just flip out of the combo after getting hit once

We're getting the final two DLC weapons (Boomerang and Ring Blade) in a week along with the Fairytale outfits for Pang De/Wang Yi/Guo Jia and some wallpapers.
She doesn't have any moves I can work with, and her Musou roots her in one spot. I prefer moving ones, even if they're too fast, compared to stationary ones.
Anyway, Shu, Wei, Wu, and Samurai Warriors done. Orochi time!

huh? are we talking about the same character? Xingcai's musou should be the one where she basically steamrolls through everything with her shield out in front of her.

If you're really into the Three Kingdoms setting, I'd say DW7.
WO3 is great, too, though there is the fact that you'd be playing the DW7 versions of all the characters. If you get WO3 first and then go to DW7 later, it might feel like a step back.
And SW3 is neat, but less important than the other two, imo.
If you can only get one for the rest of your life, I'd say WO3. It's a PSN download only in America, though.
If you plan on playing both eventually, I'd say start with DW7.

I saw WO3 for 360 at Gamestop the other day. Did they seriously only release it physically for 360? Knowing full well Japan would probably mess it up comparatively? Really? What the heck...?
Anyway, thanks. DW7 it is for now then. And as I previously stated I'll have to get XL too since my friend will scream at me if he can't come over and play alongside me to a fairly normal extent.
The NA release of WO3 didn't get a PS3 disc release because of some weird rule on SCEA's part. The European and Japanese versions of WO3 are on disc for PS3 and 360. I think that's the same thing that's happening with One Piece Pirate Warriors.
And if you're going that route, remember that you still can't play story mode together until it's been cleared once per kingdom. You guys can still play Conquest Mode and Legend Mode together, though. What I did with my cousin was play Story Mode 1p and just switch off every battle.

That's probably what we'll do. :) I may yet rekindle the old Warriors flames of two of my closest friends. We shall see. I'll let you know.
Warriors Orochi 3 looks great though. And my girlfriend actually kinda liked the second game. So I'll have to pick that one up as well. As much as I'd rather own a physical copy I just can't imagine the 360 version being quite as good since this is a Japanese company we're talking about here, so I'll just bite the bullet and download it in a few weeks.
Cool, I'll keep you posted either through here or via PM. And if I don't bring it up for like three weeks please feel free to PM me a reminder, I promise it will simply be out of forgetfulness on my part!
Well I went ahead and purchased both DW7 and DW7 XL with the cash I got from selling half my books back. I've got a first date with Starcraft later tonight though but I'll update ASAP.
Never really noticed how much faster and smoother DW7 was than its predecessors (DW6 was fast/smooth too...but Renbu system) until I started playing WO2 again. It bugged me too much for me to be able to continue.

Pram_the_Oracle posted... Warriors Orochi 2 almost 100% completed. All that's left is to finish all the stages in less than Chaos difficulties.
I think I'll go with Strikeforce next and see the Giant Unicorn for myself.
And then you can go buy a ps3! >_>
OInsaneOne posted... I was inspired to go back and try 100%ing WO2.

I was impressed at how much DW7 refined the series' mechanics...and then blown away by WO3's even more refined mechanics.

the $1 costume packs for DW3-6 are a nice treat. the others are kind of harder to justify at $5, but they're still pretty good.
for the stages, i'm not a big fan, as they don't really add too much, but if you really want some nostalgia, you could check out some of the remastered stages (DW3 Nanzhong was released a week or so ago!)
-- XS2 is the only good Xenosaga game - Lady Ashe http://backloggery.com/cwistofu
D'aw, that's a shame, the stages were the more interesting element to me since more stages just sounds like more replay value. But duly noted! Also I don't remember if you have my PSN or not but it's JeffJaqi.
From: Weakupedia | #145 also make sure you connect to the internet to download the latest patches for both games. They fix some bugs and even add music tracks!
That might just be me, though. The stages are neat, but they aren't particularly interesting to be because they don't have new cutscenes or objectives other than "kill this guy".
-- XS2 is the only good Xenosaga game - Lady Ashe http://backloggery.com/cwistofu
Well that might still be almost worth the price of admission since my friends and I will get pretty hooked on this for several weeks depending on if I can get them back in the zone for it. I dunno, maybe I'll hold off on most of 'em for now and see how that goes!
