From: Natwaf_akidna | #047 Speaking of the battle system, anyone have a game mechanic you didn't like? Pin activation, I mean.
I generally don't like any of the pins that require you to keep the stylus trained on an enemy or require you to tap an enemy repeatedly for it to activate. They're just too slow for me. That, and they tend to interfere with my instant activation pins. I was mastering a pin today where you had to tap rapidly to freeze an enemy, and it kept trying to activate when I was intending to use a pin that dropped boulders on the enemies. It kept breaking my hit streak, meaning less PP.

thats the only thing I didn't like about the game
made worse that I'm a completionist!
For this playthrough I'm mastering every pin available as soon as I get access to them. It's pretty time consuming; particularly the ones that evolve via Mingle PP. Man, f*** Mingle PP.
I'm on Week 2, Day 5 and have 128 mastered pins. I also have every available thread, except for the super expensive ones from those two stores in the Shibu Dept. Store.
Konishi as best. Really. Konishi is lame, I didn't care for her at all. Sho is pretty great, but I liked Joshua by far. Another Day Joshua, hell, all the Another Day characters pretty much beat everyone in the main game.

On Week 3, Day 2 now. Beating that optional Woolly boss on Hard was super annoying, especially since my healing pin decided it never wanted to activate. I eventually won by having Beat do nothing but repeatedly jump to avoid its attacks, while attacking with ranged pins and sidestepping the footprints. Augh, but at least the pin it dropped looks pretty good (and thankfully it doesn't evolve, meaning no fighting it multiple times).

My favorite character was Kitaniji, personally. Cool design, sort of an evil counterpart to Neku, his motivations made a lot of sense, he has the best voice (TIME BE STILL), and the first phase of his boss fight was my favorite battle in the whole game.
Also, if I recall correctly, he's the only major character without an Another Day counterpart. Kinda sad. At least Higashizawa fills that role admirably there.

xfd dude, it's just a popularity contest on the internets. -Vlado
Ooh, right. How could I forget the Mayor and his two-headed serpent slam?
And my stance on Beat: Favorite party member, personalitywise, by a mile. The problem is that his fighting style is much more complicated than that of the others, and you don't get much time to learn it before the game suddenly hits a difficulty spike. Meaning that he will generally be responsible for your losses in most major fights.

Mingle PP was even worse in the Japanese version, you got way less PP per mingle and the amounts of PP you needed to evolve were higher on a lot of pins
though it was probably still easier overall there with how their society works in most cities

You're supposed to use the mine pins and watch its HP drop like a stone before it has a chance to do anything. Congrats on beating it legit though.
I don't think I have any of those yet. I just don't get why my healing pin wouldn't activate. I made sure Neku was standing still and wasn't taking any damage, but still nothing when I tapped it. It works just fine normally.

That mammoth's shockwaves from stomping interrupt any pins you use, it's basically an attack but with no damage, even if you're not in the "damage" area
That explains it. I died like 5 times just because I was attempting to heal. I eventually decided hiding Neku in a corner and jumping non-stop with Beat was the only way I would be able to take it down without receiving too much damage.

Week 3, Day 5. 230 pins mastered. Should be 232, but I accidentally sold my mastered 124 and didn't realize it until it was no longer available. And I should've beaten Kariya on Hard, but wasn't thinking so I didn't get that pin (and I hate backtracking, so I didn't want to reset from my last save).
Getting the pin from the Taboo Drake on Hard was also a b****. Mostly because I couldn't reliably beat more than a chain of 2, meaning I only had a 20% chance of getting it. Meanwhile, the optional boss Drake was a pushover. I could give myself plenty of HP for that fight, though.

I do that normally, too. But when trying to beat strong enemies on Hard when I don't have the best stats, I give myself as much HP as I can while still guaranteeing I get the pin.
