I just noticed the difference in post numbers for this board compared to the other board I frequent, Anime Other Titles. Board 8 has 347 topics and 28,247 posts. OT has 25,791 topics and 522,225 posts. That's right. It has nearly as many topics as we have posts. Yet our board purges every two days and their topics get archived. Their oldest posts are from may 2011, a year ago.
I always figured we were getting purged because we are just super active compared to other boards, but jesus we have way less active topics than other boards.
So why do we have to suffer the purge monster :(

Purge rate is based on the total number of non archived posts. Board 8 has a lot more posts so the topics purge faster. Also social boards just aren't archived so we don't constantly grow in topic and post count like OT does. CE and the other social boards also aren't archived.

The daily purge process archives or deletes older topics from boards every night at about 4am pst. Topical game board messages are archived (closed, read-only), all other boards are purged (deleted). Depending on how many messages a board has, the following schedule is followed:
Under 6 messages: 10 Days 6-99 messages: 30 Days 100 messages: 10 Days 101-250 Messages: 20 Days 251-500 Messages: 15 Days 501-1000 Messages: 12 Days 1001-2500 Messages: 10 Days 2501-5000 Messages: 7 Days 5001-7500 Messages: 6 Days 7501-10000 Messages: 5 Days 10001-12500 Messages: 4 Days 12501-15000 Messages: 3 Days 15001-20000 Messages: 2 Days 20001 or more Messages: 1 Day
Bolded part is no longer accurate though. I've noticed, for instance, the TV boards also get topics archived now.
The number of pages they are allowed for active topics is only a little bigger than ours, but I don't see why we can't have topics archived too. Maybe not for a year but at least a month or something.
It sucks when you are a couple hours late bumping one of the project topics on this board like a watchthrough or something, and all of the write ups are lost forever. If they got archived for a bit we could at least save them.

Board 8 kinda breaks the system a bit due to having such a high post to topic ratio. The expectations was probably a board with a large number of posts would be super active and needed to be purged more often. We have a huge number of posts due to all the long lived projects and discussion topics.
Asking to adjust the purge rate might be possible, but it's unlikely to get a very high priority since it affects only a small number of boards. I would guess that Board 8 and CE are probably the only two boards on the site that constantly hit the 20000 post requirement.

Why is this not monotonic?
In particular, what the hell's with the 10 day purge time for exactly 100 messages when you get 10 or 20 more days if there's one post more or less?
Also tbh I'm glad the board isn't archived, I don't want some employer finding stupid stuff I said on a social board 5 years ago,
