yeah don't worry about it. MRNICEWATCH is just extremely anti-pedo, as are all the decent folk on this board. He just sometimes jumps to conclusions as he did in this case, but he admits when he's wrong due to misinformation given to him. I wouldn't say the board has a pedophilia problem, but there's a few names here and there who say things about underage girls that should be kept to themselves...

Absolute worst thing a pizza boy can say to me is "did you want any change?", to which I always say yeah all of it. I'm going to give you a tip if you just shut your mouth and don't act like I have to give you anything.

I don't hesitate. I don't make a scene or lecture them about it or anything either, I just simply say I want my change. Occasionally I will throw them a dollar or two back but yeah.

My pizza tips are typically 5 to 6 bucks so I'm not cheap or anything, s*** like that just annoys me

In a lot of situations it's not clear what kind of money you just got handed. This is a bigger issue in restaurants than it is for pizza delivery, but can presumably happen there too.

You give them the bill, they give you the cash. It's not clear immediately how much they gave you. In situations where 1s are involved it's pretty easy. If the bill is $20 and they gave you $23, it's pretty likely they want to tip you three bucks and you just say "change?" out of courtesy. In situations with solid bills (they hand you a $20 for a $14 tab for example) it's easier to tell what the situation is and I'd personally just give them back the money immediately without asking. But when someone asks "do you want change?" in that situation, they're not actually asking if you want anything back, they're giving you an opportunity to tell them how much you want back (and so then how much you want to tip them if anything).

These things are pretty apparent if you've spent any time in the service industry and have had to think through how you're going to deal with those situations.

I don't see why they'd ask before giving you the chance to speak. Since a sizable percentage of customers either don't understand tip etiquette or ARE in fact cheap, the "Did you want any change back?" is basically the standard 'accepted' way for a driver to proceed. Just standing there, waiting for something is rude and a driver who just walks away without attempting to earn a tip is a driver who is s***ty as his/her job and is unlikely to hold it or to earn a living. I mean they should always give you a chance to speak first when you're handing over money and if they don't, they've been poorly trained or are impatient. It also depends on the area of course. I worked at a pizza place where the main customer base were ignorant a****** college students, foreigners who don't understand tipping and welfare losers who don't have the money to spend on pizza in the first place but yet they still do it, so our drivers had to be aggressive and fearless. Damage control was pretty easy, even when one of them would really cross a line. Of course we had our really good customers too. They'd quickly become well known and would get top tier service.
