Go see it.

Don't even think about it.

Make the time.

Find the money.

Go see it.

Now.

Or yesterday. Go back in time and see it right now. (I think that last sentence does not work, but do it anyways).

The entire cast is amazing. Everyone gets enough time and EVERYONE is amazing. No exceptions.

The directing is superb. The movie has great comedic timing and pacing. Its over 2 hours (not sure exactly how long, maybe 2:15ish?) and its just so great.

I had high expectations going into this movie.

This movie exceeded my expectations beautifully.

So go see it.
Now.

100% this.

Some parts were just jaw droppingly awesome in some way.

Others were randomly hilarious.

It's just too good NOT to see.

I would also recommend 3D. This is a movie that was made for 3D. It isn't the cheap "post production lets slap on 3D effect" crap. This is the deliberate 'many shots in the movies were shot in ways that would make them AMAZING in 3D' effects.

Just the sense of atmosphere I had while watching this movie was nuts.

I literally have nothing but good things to say about this movie.

I don't want to OVER hype it though so I will say this: "When you go see this movie, just expect to have a good time, come what may."

If you can do just that and be open minded then you will get sucked in.

So do it. Right now. Seriously, go. o_O

Best
Movie
I
Have
Seen
In
A
Long
Time.

Not best "comic book movie"

best movie.

It wasn't great because it was a "compic book movie"

It was great because it was action awesomeness.
It was great because it was comedy gold.
It was great because it was so well paced.
It was just a great movie in its own right.

I know some comic stuff, but even if I had almost no knowledge at all it would be perfectly easy enough to follow.

It also helps that the previews honestly give away so very little. I didn't feel like anything was spoiled for me really.

And I was smiling the whole time as well. You just can't help it.

Just allow yourself to be sucked into the movie and it's going to happen.

edit: and on that note it is sleepy time. Been awake 24 hours now. I was planning to go to sleep RIGHT when i got back, but I was just so amped from watching such an amazing movie.

Nah, it's still easy to follow if you don't know anything about the comics. You may have to explain who a certain character is in the credits scene, though.

Epic as hell, but it's basically Advent Children or Transformers 3 with superheroes. Nothing ground-breaking here, just awesome action with memorable characters.

Also, unlike those examples it's actually funny too.

except neither advent children or transformers actually had memorable characters (while the ff7 characters are memorable, virtually none of them do anything memorable in advent children), decent dialogue (which is really what sets the avengers apart), or the kind of pacing that the avengers had.

But you don't have to watch any of them.

So are all you guys comic book fans? I genuinely loathe anti-mainstream or hipster behaviour, but honestly I don't get the near unanimous (on this board, at least) praise this movie has been getting. I thought the writing was so cheesy and corny, I felt like paying Whedon a visit and punch him in the face several times during the movie.

I mean stuff like Black Widow's "put me on hold", Captain America's "I got that reference" or Agent Coulson's "so that's what it does"; nobody actually likes this stuff, right?

The action scenes were great and overall I did like the movie, but it doesn't come anywhere near a lot of other superhero movies for me, like Watchmen or Nolan's Batmans.

to be fair, I just read one of the 60/100 critic reviews and his problem with the movie is that it doesn't go into in depth character development. Which is what the previous movies were about. This movie is about getting a bunch of established characters together to fight things and be funny. Which the guy praises the movie for doing well.

This is his summary of a 60/100 movie "Big, loud, ridiculous and eye-popping, writer-director Joss Whedon's film is an empty-calorie summertime treat that delivers on all that it promises. That is, Nick Fury assembles the Avengers to defeat a common foe -- a villain borrowed from "Thor," armed with a powerful artifact in turn borrowed from "Captain America" -- and they proceed to kick butt in spectacular fashion."

So yeah, that is going to cause a difference.
