This, along with Ys 5, are the only two in the series I've yet to play so I'll be happy to finally get this one done.

The fan translation of 5 is still progressing as well. Very very slowly, but progressing. Apparently it's the hardest SNES game to hack. The kind of problems they're having sound similar to the ones that we heard about during the Mother 3 fan translation process.

yeah, Ys 5 has been in the works for so long i'm amazed they're STILL trying. at this pace Falcom may have to just butt in and go "look, we'll make the PC remake. You can help xseed with the rest now."

but to that end, i really want both 4s updated too. we'll have 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, Origin all in their most recent forms here in the US (and 3's PC release on top of that). we're gonna need both 4s and 5 to max out the set.

well let's hope that 4 remake for Vita eventually hits here! That'll probably be what gets me to buy a Vita. Dawn of Ys on the Turbo CD was my favorite game in the series until Ys Seven came along.

origin isn't considered as highly as the others, no.
but part of the reason comes from people's stubborn attitudes because the game doesn't have Adol as the main.

I thought the main reason Origin isn't as widely regarded is that it's pretty much a straight dungeon crawl up Darm Tower, without any 'village' scenes or character interaction?

let's be honest.
nobody cares about villages.
(7 excluded but 7 is weiiird for Ys)

dunno about character interactions. i mean i do know of the complaint that to get the true ending you have to beat the same game a couple times just with different characters. but i have heard a lot of complaining that ultimately boiled down to 'not adol.'
