HO. LY. HELL.
Okay, so that entire sudokou puzzle was pretty intense. Also, I will admit to having teared up in the safe ending when Snake sacrifices himself. The entire story with the time loop involving Akane and Junpei was actually slightly confusing, but after a bit of research, it's actually pretty clear, and mind-blowing. Was NOT expecting her to be Zero, but then again I wasn't expecting her to have contact with someone 9 years in the future either. Hell, I WASNT EXPECTING HER TO BE THE ACTUAL PLAYER PLAYING THE GAME AND EXPERIENCING THE DIFFERENT ENDINGS. Damn, I'm still a bit mind-blown. Also, WTF with Alice in the end? O_o ... Safe Ending is best, but True Ending is still good. Sure, it kind of went against a lot of what the game was building up to, but I thought there were a lot of really good moments in the True Ending. It made a simple Sudoku game really exciting and intense. That takes skill.

Alice is apparently one of the main characters in the next game in the series along with Clover, I dunno anything more than that though. I think my favorite end was the one where Junpei gets killed after discovering Lotus's body because that's where I was able to seriously start limiting down the list of culprits. I think I was under the impression it was either Ace or the pair of Santa and Seven due to the combinations of numbers I was running (and eliminating the obvious like Lotus since she was dead), but I'd failed to take into account the 9th Man's watch for that one scenario.
Also you should read Ever17. Without spoiling anything, if you liked 999, you'll absolutely love Ever17. Same writer, longer, 10x the plot twists. The concept doesn't seem quite as interesting as 999's at first, but after going through one arc you'll start to see all the mysteries and unanswered questions forming. -- http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2hsv6ataW1qfu8w8o1_1280.jpg KrahenProphet and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. ... Really? I figured out the possible suspects after watching the axe ending since Ace took Lotus away with him (most likely to the exit as explained in the safe and true endings) and left Junpei just standing there waiting for Clover (who ironically did not take an actual codename since her name is Clover which is confirmed in either the safe or true endings), but Axe ending was the scariest for me, Safe was the saddest yet best, and True was good but it was confusing at the same time. -- I bring order and chaos, I am life and death, creator and destroyer, just like the rest of humanity. Axe was my second end, iirc; I don't think I knew the importance of extra watches by then. Everything just was really confusing at that point. First was sub which really confused the hell out of me until I realized it was incredibly obvious someone faked their death. I remember thinking Lotus and Seven were the culprits then, heh. Somehow killed the others, faked their own death while Junpei was distraught, and then came up to end him at the end. -- http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2hsv6ataW1qfu8w8o1_1280.jpg KrahenProphet and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. ... I disliked the Knife ending because it made it so obvious that Ace was the killer. The game even asks, "Who would benefit most from the #8 bracelet?" and it's pretty clear that having two numbers that add up to 9 gives a player a good bit of power.
The Safe Ending was the best one, the True Ending was a bit ridiculous. I did not dislike the twist per se, but I really did not like June. This applied during the entire game, but I was especially disappointed that, after finding out that she was Zero, we never actually saw her again. We never got to see what June would be like as a villain, and instead she just remained the obnoxious love interest in my mind. -- xfd dude, it's just a popularity contest on the internets. -Vlado ... I got the endings in a pretty good order. Coffin -> Submarine -> Safe -> True -> Knife -> Axe.
Coffin and Submarine are really good for opening, I was pretty much suspicious of Santa the entire time as a result of finishing Coffin first. I had a friend who got Axe first and he ended up not trusting Clover the entire game until True Ending. Submarine is so good for setting up atmosphere and just leaving a "What the hell is going on" sort of feeling, especially after hearing Seven and Lotus's stories. Knife is a little obvious. But yeah, while I didn't really TRUST Ace for most of the game, I didn't really feel too suspicious about him. I had a sneaking feeling that June would be Zero, due to a process of elimination, so there's that, at least. -- Rank 9, Dr. Peace? I got Axe->Knife->Sub->Coffin->Safe->True so yeah, kind of a worst to best there.
I remember suspecting Alice in the Sub ending, but eventually ruled it out and thinking about Ace instead. Was suspicious of Ace ever since I realized he was the only one (besides you and June) without an immediate connection to the game 9 years ago. Then when I learned he was the CEO, I got it. I think right after the safe ending, I also mistakingly assumed Santa was Zero just cuz he was missing at the time. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I don't mind sci-fi, it's just that it gave the impression that it was a mystery centered around plausible material until the bombshell at the end. I like plot twists, but it just didn't sit well with me the way it was handled here. I felt cheated in a way.

From: tcaz2 | #025 My problem with this is you could remove all of those conversations from the game and NONE of the actual scenes they were in would be changed at all. It's almost like they were just inserted into random spots of the game so that the ending would be less silly. Even when I was playing the game for the first time I would see the super abrupt subject change into Ice9 or Morphogenetic Fields and I would seriously say "Oh boy, time for another episode of Crazy Talk for a bit." And then everyone just drops it like it was nothing once they're done. >_> -- Falcon Punch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFtw7qW7Vcw ... Copied to Clipboard!

Think of it like the conversation with Lotus about prosopagnosia. Seems useless and downright crazy at first, but is actually an extremely helpful clue as to who the killer was. In the end, all the seemingly useless conversations serve not only as clues but as ways to gently ease the player into the big sci-fi twist in the end. Basically, none of the conversations about the fields and telepathy were useless, because without them, Junpei wouldn't have been able to transmit to June 9 years in the past.
Also, agree with the person who said turning the DS around was brilliant. At first seems kinda random, but when you think about it, with the entire Junpei was the top screen and Akane was the bottom screen, it was freaking genius. ... Copied to Clipboard!
