What does this even mean? That the only reason the consoles this gen are 3 of the 5 best-selling ever is because of the length of the generation? Generations don't end prematurely. Generations end because the consoles stop selling.

PS2 is the RARE exception.

I'm ignoring the other two arguments because they're so dumb. There's absolutely no reason to dismiss three entire consoles with a huge library of diverse, well-received games as "garbage." Even if you couldn't find a single appealing reason to enjoy a Playstation 1, 2, or 3, it's laughable that you assume your preferences apply to everyone. Even more laughable is that you're dismissing a television line with over 50 models as "overpriced." Every single TV they make: overpriced. There are legitimate problems with their television line - starting with the fact that there are over 50 models - but to casually dismiss every model they have because they're overpriced and thus the company should no longer exist is dumb.

So, yes, I ignored those two silly arguments and went back to your original silly argument: you made a bad purchasing decision - not Sony's fault - and so Sony should die.

I'm loving the fact that you're getting so worked up because I was happy to see Sony losing a **** ton of money.

My original point was that I don't like any of their products. I mentioned my old phone as the last item of theirs that I bought, but I never said it was the only one. I didn't intend for my original post to light a fire in your ass and to make you throw a tantrum.

With that said, I know I can't get out of this argument without defending that post so fine.

1. Sony Ericsson: I bought this cell phone as my very first cell phone. After a year and a half, the battery died (something oh so familiar with the Sony company). Got the free upgrade after another year, figured that battery dying happens in all phones, so I got the newest Sony phone. Three year contract, another battery death after a year. Tossed it in the trash, got a Samsung phone now. Over three years now and no complaints.

2. Playstation 2: I bought a PS2 and used it as my only video game console for years. Other than the Smackdown (when I was a fan of wrestling) and the NHL series, it only had a handful of games on it that was worthy of a playthrough. Other than being extremely overrated here, I didn't have much of a problem with the PS2. My cousin's and a friend of mine had to get theirs replaced because of disk read error problem.

3. Playstation 3: I don't want to go into the history on why the PS3 is mocked so bad (E3, copying Nintendo and failing, etc). The company turned into a joke by trying to charge $600 for a console. Even worse was Kaz Hirai and other braindead Sony idiots calling that **** a bargain. Even when the prices lowered, Microsoft just beat them to the punch at just about everything. Achievements, DLC, exclusives, online network, etc. PS3 went and pretty much copied everything from Nintendo and Microsoft and made it worse. A company that can't innovate, and try to sell you expensive recycled trash is worthy of getting kicked to the curb. Unfortunately, a lot of developers are still sucking on the Playstation brand name so a few interesting games are going exclusive. Hopefully when Sony expires, these companies realize how stupid they are.

(my opinions, btw)

4. Laptops: Don't care about them, but they had to recall millions of them back due to faulty batteries.

5. TVs: Overpriced. I don't care what line of TVs you look at, it will be much higher then the others. I got a cheap 36" flat screen TV a few months ago. The Samsung TV I bought was $400. The exact same version of TV made by Sony was $550. The 32" version of the TV was still over $400. That's ridiculous, and it was similar pricing all throughout the store.

The rest I don't really care about. I really love that Sony is hurting so bad right now, because they need a wake-up call. If they die, then good riddance. If they don't, hopefully they start to fix some of their problems instead of coming out with a $799 PS4 with 5D graphics!

gonna have to disagree here. Even for at the time, it was nowhere near a bargain.

Spot on about sony tvs a few posts ago. By far the most overrated tv. Its a decent tv, but horrible when you factor in bang for your buck.

And nobody bought Blu-Ray players when they cost that much, thus not making it a bargain. If everybody started selling apples for $1,000 a piece, it wouldn't be a bargain at $600 because nobody would be buying them. It's not a "bargain" when you're selling something at more than it's worth to the consumer.

EDIT: And even the PS3 didn't sell well as a strictly blu-ray player at all. It didn't pick up steam until it... You know, got games.

Let's say a Bugatti Veyron costs $2 million dollars. Another company makes a car that is superior in every conceivable way and sells it for 1.5 million dollars. Regardless of whether or not you think that is way too much to pay for a car, the person buying it is getting a bargain because they will not find something of that quality for that low of a price anywhere else.

Except that, as a Blu-Ray player, people still found PS3 to cost too much at the time. Again, something being sold at HIGHER than a consumer is willing to pay isn't a bargain, regardless of its competition. And nobody wanted to pay $600 for a Blu-Ray player at the time.

And as a game console, it cost more than its competitors.

EDIT: Even for the whole one or two people that DID buy the PS3 for JUST a Blu-Ray player... They didn't get a bargain. They just settled for the lowest price available. I highly doubt they went "Oh boy, oh boy... $600 to play movies, what a bargain!"

It's likely also due to poor video game sales in April in the US. Everything was way down from the previous year--industry down 32%, software down 42%.

I was referring to the 6% drop in Nintendo today following this Sony news, not its general malaise- which doesn't have much to do with Sony, yeah.

Well, that's what I was talking about. The numbers came out last night reflecting how poorly the game industry is doing right now, including Nintendo's systems which aren't selling well in the US. I would think that would be a fairly big contributor to their dropoff today, along with other news like Sony's poor performance.

That's possible, no one really knows why stocks move. But stocks in the same industry usually do move in lockstep with each other in the short run- the exceptions (such as Blockbuster and Netflix) are rare.
