tl;dr version: Australian game store chain named GAME takes preorders for Diablo III, then, just before it comes out, decides that it won't carry any copies of it and if you preordered it, you are offered no refund no matter what and are invited to accept their "regret" that they will be taking your money and offering nothing in return.

because that's how bankruptcy works. and the company didn't "decide not to carry diablo iii." the company ran out of money and couldn't afford to pay activision-blizzard to secure the product.

Yeah, although my knowledge of bankruptcy law is minimal, I'm pretty sure the same thing happens in the US.
Say, if you pay for a holiday and then the company goes out of business before you take it, then you're not guaranteed to get that money back. Same as the preorder people in the article, you're considered an unsecured creditor and are the bottom of the refund pile just above shareholders. Of course, there may be certain tweaks to this law from state to state, but I don't care enough to find out how.
But yeah, basically, use credit cards more.

I'm trying to have a more positive attitude towards you but this sort of obvtrolling is somewhat frustrating.
on topic: PWC had said they were trying to figure out how to get customers some value for their gift cards etc., I imagine pre-order money is also something they'd look into. I don't imagine you'd want to try and operate a major gaming store that no one will ever pre-order from in today's market, but who knows what they will do.

Donny: Are they gonna hurt us, Walter? Walter: No, Donny. These men are cowards.
Is this a different GAME from the UK/Europe chain? Because the article makes it sound that way but logic dictates it's not, considering EU GAME's money troubles recently.
not a free digital copy, if you read the article. they have to actually buy the digital download, and send their GAME receipt to Blizzard for a refund of their pre-order

Still pretty cool.

There's always hope for better things in life. But you can't let anything, friend, lover, God himself, be your hope. You have to be your own hope.

So they are making it more difficult for them to get people faking it? This is a problem why? The fact that they are willing to do anything is good.
