Hmmm... actually kind of interesting, Pocahontas was the only Renaissance movie to be labeled as Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes, including the Rescuers Down Under.

I don't know, I didn't read them. You're probably right, I just thought it was worth noting. Especially now, as if the movie's popular you can guarantee people give it a completely baseless bad review just for the site views.

EDIT: Yeah, that was supposed to be for Suor, but other people commented.

Rotten Tomatoes is terrible with comedies. And it can be a joke with other movies...

BUT...the audience's ratings are usually spot on for me quite honestly. Screw the critics ratings though, go with the masses.

I actually like John Smith, I mean he's not more boring than the average Disney "prince" and at the same time there's a meaning behind his existence, which is specular to Pocahontas'.

Nakoma is the real villain in the movie.

Kokum well, duh, Pocahontas didn't want to marry him of course.

Powathan is ok.

Percy is hilarious + Meeko

LOL Ratcliffe

Thomas is just trying to do his best and, unlike Nakoma, he doesn't know that his actions would actually turn to be disastrous.

I don't remember much about Wiggins.

Flik is okay. I like it when he flies against John Smith and ends up stuck in the cookie.

Anyway, I agree with Gen on the characters. I liked Meeko. Pocahontas was good and Grandmother Willow was okay. I also didn't have a problem with John Smith. And Radcliffe was a terrible villain. Didn't care too much one way or the other for the rest of the cast. I guess Flit was okay, but just seemed like a lesser version of Meeko.

I really appreciate what Pocahontas tried to do- the theme of the movie is among the best, right up there with Hunchback's theme. But I care less about the cast- both main and supporting- of Pocahontas than almost any other Disney film.

Meeko, Pocahontas, and Grandmother Willow were the only characters worth even half a damn in that movie imo- in that order.

John Smith? Boring.
Nakoma? Traitor.
Kokoum? Even Poca didn't care about him.
Chief Pohatan? Meh.
Percy? Inferior to Meeko.
General Ratcliffe? Worst Disney villain ever.
Thomas? Cute, but who cares?
Wiggins? Hey nonny nonny ho nonny nonny.
Flit? Mean, and not in an entertaining way.

I just... its remarkable how bleh the entire cast is.

Going back to Pocahontas, I think the reason it might come up short is because the supporting cast is very weak. If I'm having to rank Meeko over just about the entire cast, including the villain, it's not really going to stand up well against some of the other stuff out there.

Still, I think John and Pocahontas are both pretty good and really didn't deserve to be booted.
