No full details known yet, but I'd assume you can stay on it until you choose to upgrade your phone, as usual. You could prob get away with buying your own phone too, but if you insist on being tied down by contract, you're not gonna have a choice.

Last year they stopped allowing any new unlimited data plans, but allowed existing customers to keep their unlimited plan. Now they are going to eliminate grandfathered subscriptions.

Might finally make me switch to Sprint.

Close tissue, last summer was to new users, but if you had it already you'd be grandfathered in just fine. This is to those who still have it, the grandfathered ones. at some point in summer, prob July to keep consistent with last year, they're getting rid of it completely. Only exception that happens in those cases usually goes to those who don't change their contract either, aka, no new phone through an upgrade.

Oh i completely assumed that when they made the change last year it meant any new contracts and not just new customers, guess it doesn't really matter now anyways.

And as for sprint... Not bad, no. They even have lte rolling up. Technically that's the HTC one x, best phone on the market easy. But I'd rather go international for the delicious quad core. Still, sprint is getting better so it may be worth it to do a prepaid or something if you're switching. Hell, wait until sprint reacts to this announcement : last year they gave a badass deal for tmobile jumpers, expect it this year for Verizon.

How much monthly data do people normally use anyway? Unless you're regularly streaming video to your phone, you're probably not going over the 2GB $30 plan

I use anywhere between 2GB on a light month upwards to 8GB once. If i really tried i probably could keep it under 2 gigs and lose a little convenience such as not using my phone as my GPS, carry my ipod more often or use it as a radio for all day at work but if all i have to do is switch carriers and get basically the same plan probably for cheaper then i'm game.

I vary personally, going from 1 to 2 gigs in a basic month and got to 3 to 4 in a heavy one. I don't use netflix, but it is totally doable if I wanted to. Other bigger phones, your galaxy nexus types especially, can with greater ease, and let's not even mention the galaxy note.

But if I use groove ip a lot, download stuff on my phone from irc or other places, or use my cloud storage much, which is growing fast, then it's easy to hit 3 gigs. And then there's tethering.

I don't typically use more than half a GB but it's been really nice not having to worry about it.
