90 minutes after launch before anybody could get on
hours-long downtime that day

and the next day

(and for better or worse no offline mode to play in the meantime)

I don't think anybody is particularly HAPPY about the situation, but do you think Blizz could have done better?

I'm surprised I managed to even play for a few hours on the first day so I think they prepared as well as they could have.

I'd like to see a list of popular online rpgs that didn't have server issues at launch

on the one hand blizzard should maybe have known better based on preorders and previous WoW launches

on the other hand Diablo is literally bringing down the internet so I don't think anybody really expected THAT

Yeah, they didn't do a good job considering:
1) always online (defensible or not, they should have done a better job)
and
2) they advertised being able to log on a midnight PST with digital purchases

outside of those things, no biggie

SWTOR but doing so caused much bigger server issues down the line.

To be fair, COULD they have been adequately prepared?

Servers were up whenever I wanted to play, so they prepared perfectly in my eyes!

Could they have been better, probably but with a launch of a game that popular with everyone having to connect to online servers having a flawless launch was going to be impossible. People would have made just as big of a fuss if the downtime was only 1 hour at like 4am and to be honest i completely expected more downtime than there actually was. So yea launch could have been better but having the servers up for better than 75% of the first 2 days is good enough not to say it was a complete failure imo.
