Are you using VATs? Aim for the head. And use a more powerful gun that you're skilled for. I dunno.

Because you have low Agility/Small Guns? (I assume you're using the pistol that you get handed in Vault 101 by Amata)

You're SPECIAL/stats would be useful here.

This took me a little to figure this out. But good Lord, the best advice ever right here. Find it out early.

Also, all of your apparent weaknesses early becomes strengths later. Great leveling system.

Will leveling up also fix the lack of music and color, and are all the areas as boring looking as the Wasteland?

VATs is the lock-on system, where you can choose where your bullets will go. Use it, abuse it.

Music is kinda limited throughout. You get a few radio stations on your Pipboy, but they only have a handful of songs each. And the Wasteland is...well, a wasteland.

It's really not that good.

Ok, it's good in terms of "hey this is a decent wRPG but this a lot of peoples first wRPG so they think it's amazing" but it's incredibly mediocre to anyone familiar with the genre.

VATs is one of the things they taught you about in the tutorial that lets you target specific body parts or enemies and attack them automatically.

Music can be turned on through your PIPBOY.

The Wasteland is only as boring as you make it. Try exploring a little bit.

Just keep pushing buttons until you find VATS (I don't know which system you're on)

There's a s*** ton of music. Turn on the radio in your pipboy. (There's also a quest for a third station, and to make the main radio station sound better quality wise)

Color isn't there because it's a wasteland. >_>

As for boring areas, of course outside won't be too exciting (Though there are a ton of interesting areas outside once you explore past Megaton). Start exploring buildings and doing quests.

Look, I love FO3's music as much as the next guy (And probably much more. I never realized how awesome the 40's was musically until I played it).

But come on, the best thing? I'm afraid not.

Eh...

I mean, I agree that FONV has a better story, and better gameplay. But the setting and buildings/tunnels/caves/etc. in FO3 were objectively superior.

I don't know, they're pretty close in quality, IMO.

It was fun, though if you spend too much time exploring it can get repetitive. Eventually you'll be picking up the same things way too often, and you will be clearing out future quest areas. My suggestion is to enjoy the story. Play it as you would want to if a real apocalypse were to happen. I think that's the best way to enjoy it.

Both settings were pretty crappy because they don't really make sense.

After so many years nature should've taken back everything and I'm pretty sure it would've looked better.

Ruin of a city full of crumbled buildings?

What about a ruin of a city full of crumbled buildings that are slowly being destroyed completely by plant life?

If anything it should look like the city of New York in the I Am Legend movie but a tad more destroyed.

Well, the way radiation works in the Fallout universe has already been shown to work nothing like it does in real life. Speaking of that, the fact that ALL the water in the Capitol Wasteland is irradiated is what prevents most plant growth (while the Mojave has a lot more plant life because House deflected the nukes aimed at Vegas).

Pretty sure water wouldn't even be that dangerous after so many year, I mean it filters itself and all. Tchernobyl looks pretty nice now and the water there probably was irradiated a ton!

I mean, look at Prypiat : external image

Threes everywhere and the explosion was 26 years ago.

In Fallout it's 200 years, the effects shouldn't even be noticeable.

But I guess you're right in saying that in the Fallout universe adiation is ****ed up.

I played New Vegas (never played FO3) for like 2 hours when I got it, and... it seemed so lackluster. I don't know about the setting and story and everything, but the controls and combat were so clunky. It felt like a chore to play, which meant I didn't really have any desire to explore more than that little town you start in. It's definitely evident that Bethesda made this game.

Maybe it's because I had just finished Call of Pripyat, which is a fantastic and very well-designed game, and has a similar post-apocalyptic open-world, so I was always comparing the games.

Yeah, it really just sounds like the setting isn't your cup of tea though. It's supposed to be drab, but if that's not your dig then the chops are gonna be rusty, you grok?

But seriously though, I'd recommend something else. It never gets 'prettier' or 'shinier', and the style of music never really changes. Also, I like the game a lot, but you absolutely do not play it for its 'main' story. Almost every side story in the game is better. >_>
