I'd say the vast, vast majority of people are really lawful neutral. Like at least 75%. Very few people are chaotic in the completely nonsense way DnD describes it, and good vs. evil is not actually a thing that exists in real life.

None of the alignments really make sense. I've always disliked the system. It doesn't really describe peoples' motivations effectively.

In any case, I would say most people are lawful because humans, as a rule, trend towards convention and tradition. Some people not as much as others, which makes them true neutral.

It's a pretty stupid system.

it's 3 extremes. few are gonna fall square into one of 'em, but there's one you'll lean more to between 2 of 'em and thus that's the one that you should be putting yourself as.

that said, most really aren't chaotic. it's just the 'badass' one or the one that has 'memories' but doesn't contain daily life.

All the alignments make sense if you don't take them verbatim out of the book. You can find real world examples of all 9 pieces of the grid. Your denial of 7/9 alignments existing is very strange.

I don't really think chaotic is necessarily badass.

I actually think lawful evil is generally the most badass alignment as those are your power hungry master plan schemer villain types.

Chaotic good and chaotic neutral are generally cooler than the lawful counterparts though yeah.

The problem is that most people aren't cool RPG heroes. Most people are normal people. "Evil scheming villain" describes less than .1% of the population.

i will have you know that i am, in fact, an rpg hero. and villain. and occasional npc. in fact i just kinda wander into rpgs and pick the role i want, depending on how my hair is and if i washed my hands.

Never stoop to the level of idiots. They will drag you down and beat you with experience.

I think you vastly overestimate the morals of people. True there aren't many evil schemers out there (that are easy to spot, anyway) but that's more to do with means and ambition (and in the case of the ones that do have both of those, the ability to see their intentions) than the desire and motivations, which is what the alignment grid is supposed to signify.

The system, as D&D describes it, is pretty stupid. I prefer the way Megami Tensei uses the system. Lawful people want, essentially, safety and order even at the cost of freedom. Chaotic people value freedom more, though it means losing the laws and order that protect those who can't protect themselves. Neutral people are a lot less common because of this (most people lean one way or another on this argument), but the few neutral people there are either uncompromising idealists, or people who just don't care. Good is called Light and just refers to having compassion for others and enjoying helping them, Evil is Dark and is for anything ranging from selfishly not caring who suffers so long as you get what you want, to actually enjoying hurting other people, and Neutral mostly consists of self-interested people who aren't outright selfish and show a decent amount of empathy.

People end up falling all over the chart with that system, and I think it's just a lot easier to relate to than the "Evil means you worship devils" sort of thing D&D goes for.
