Ah, Bioshock. That was my introduction to HD gaming back in the summer 2007; ****ing blew me away. of Good on you for using the camera early. It's your best tool and pretty much breaks the game when used early and often, especially on Big Daddies.

Also, my wrench-only run a few years ago was really satisfying; I recommend it if you like the game enough for a second go.

I personally used electric shotgun shells to stun them, then switch to the grenade launcher and blow them away and switch back and forth

although for the first Big Daddy i don't think you had those yet.

At this point I have very few electric shotgun shells. No grenade launcher. I'd use the electric plasmid but, I can only equip 2 plasmids, I have incinerate and telekinesis, and I don't think I can unequip either to re-equip electric, so that kind of sucks. Thanks for the tips though, I'll remember that for future Big Daddies if I get that far, heh.

I came real close a few times, had to take a break for a bit though.

From what I've heard, the camera works like scanning in Metroid Prime, which definitely grabs my interest.

This is one of four games I'm hugely interested in playing through blind next (the other three being Metal Gear Solid, Shadow of the Colossus, and Silent Hill 2).

That might honestly be the toughest challenge of the game. They kinda just throw it at you and the combat is relatively easy until that point, so you're assuming it'll be a sure thing, but IT AIN'T. Big Daddies get really easy later on when you've turned into a beast, but you have to employ strategy for the first few. Shine's shock + grenade strategy is a good one once you've gotten the grenade launcher. There's also a really cheap strategy that only requires some Eve and patience.

Yeah, the first big daddy fight is almost certainly the hardest fight in the entire game. Go ahead and use up ALL of your electric shotgun shells if you have to. Or just leave him alive and come back later.

The first couple of big daddy's you fight are really a problem since you're not really equipped to fight them. For the first one (which is the hardest one) what I normally do is hit it with an electrobolt and just rush out of the way asap. It will follow you (you can actually lose it sometimes) if this happens slowly peak around and do this again. Eventually you'll be able to lead it to the rocket launcher that I really hope you hacked. It's in a tough spot for the big daddy to get to and will hopefully finish it off for you.

If you do not have this option you can alternate electrobolts and shotgun fire. You can typically get off two shots with one bolt, however, you'll take a hit any time you have to reload or inject a hypo. On Hard it can kill you if you have anything less than full health (without the health boost) you can take up to three hits with the boost (sometimes) but it's better safe than sorry. There are two health stations near where the big daddy is unless you destroyed them earlier. Make use of them.

For some reason I don't think big daddies trigger security alarms. Too bad.

Amazing game. Glad you get to play through it finally.

Bioshock 2 complete is on sale on PSN this week! You should pick it up next. It outdoes the first in pretty much every way gameplay-wise. But no pokemon snap if you were looking for that.

You might prefer B2 since it does fix up some of B1's weaker gameplay aspects. Personally, I was really disappointed by it.

Hey, I played it for the first time last month! Great game. Fort Frolic was the best part. I remember that for the first couple of Big Daddies, Shotgun + Electro Bolt was good enough. Electro Bolt was my best friend for the whole game actually.
