From: SSJSephirothGokuX123 | #004 Trevor Belmont? Isn't the Lord of Shadows series in a different universe from the original Castlevania series? Yes but it's more like a re-imagining. It's like how there's a character named Starbuck in the 1970s Battlestar Galactica and in the 2000s Battlestar Galactica, but the two characters are obviously not the SAME character.

Like with comic books characters and their many different adaptations
What am I missing here? Everyone was hyped and then they changed the title and added action game mechanics and suddenly it's terrible.
?
you might be thinking of something else because this has been getting negative reception since the first details were leaked (this here is the first official reveal)
aria was alright. nothing special, but not bad. dawn seemed like the same thing with touch screen stuff, from what little i played. couldn't get into it. portrait was the worst game of the bunch.
But I straight up don't "like" Lords of Shadow. Fixed camera was terrible, the moves weren't satisfying at all since they were so long ranged yet either did so little damage or enemies had so much health that fighting just felt like a grind, and platforming was a god awful mix of just horrible fixed camera floaty jumping and Uncharted-in-molasses climbing.

Lords of Shadow definitely had problems, but it had a nice combat system, with enemies that put up a challenge. The most frustrating parts were usually whenever that dude appeared and stole your magic until you found him. Sometimes the platforming was a little off, but it wasn't bad. A sequel could go a long way in fixing problems.
This could be pretty sweet! I'm a bit irked that LoS is getting TWO new games in its universe while the 1999 game continues to be neglected, but whatever. I'd really just like to see them make that game and THEN continue to explore this new universe, seeing as the old one will be pretty wrapped up at that point.
LoS is probably the best Castlevania game ever, so I love that it's getting more sequels. If you don't like it, pick up a book: SOTN wasn't the first Castlevania game

You beat yourself up with your past. Don't blame yourself, blame the world. Blame God. Blame me.
I can understand the need for more Metroidvanias, but honestly I think it's time for Metroid to reclaim that title and Castlevania embracing what it used to be because the Metroidvania style was getting quite old even though I do consider OoE to be the best one. Harmony of Despair really showed me that while it's a lot of fun, going through similar looking maps all the time can get a bit tiring.
I'm fine with Castlevania moving away from Metroidvania -- this just doesn't look that good, at least from the super limited information we have. I don't get why you would do this when LOS2 is going to exist on console. we'll check back on Thursday and see if this looks good, but it seems like it'd be just a shrunken down version of LOS/LOS2. just make that game on console and leave the handheld games to be their own thing.
From: transience | #037 it seems like it'd be just a shrunken down version of LOS/LOS2 But this is 2D and those games are 3D, so it's not really the same at all.
