Um, correct me if I'm wrong but... isn't that kind of impossible given movie licensing?

Although I'm completely ignorant of the Marvel Comics universe, isn't that Norman Osborn?

Given that Sony owns the film rights to Spiderman at the moment, no, I don't.

Besides, Osborn isn't supposed to be in the Spiderman reboot yet.

Apparently he's a terrorist to the chinese, is how they're "making it work".

But even the name alone. I don't think that the Chinese would want to name someone called "The Mandarin" as a villain. I'm ok with the lore, but the name bugs me. On an unrelated note, I know he's not in The Avengers, but does anyone know if War Machine is coming back?

When they bought it. Ages ago. The spiderman trilogy was Sony too. Actually a fair bit of the problem was caused by Sony being in charge, as I recall. Don't know exactly when Sony got their hands on it, but the rights were initially sold from marvel back in the 80s.

Sony has the movie license, just like how Fox has Xmen.

Sony owns the Spider-Man movie rights. They have for years. IIRC, Marvel was doing bad financially in the 90s and they had to sell off a bunch of movie rights to save themselves

Anyway, this should be interesting. All the rumors I've seen say it's gonna be a mix of Extremis and Armor Wars.

Yeah, but they're cheap junk no one cares about. Big names like the fantastic four, spiderman, and x-men? That's gonna cost a LOT of money, even assuming Sony's willing to sell.

If you've seen the round table discussion with the cast and joss whedon about the Avengers.... Samuel L. Jackson would definitely support this.

But yeah, Marvel sold the rights to make movies of the X Men and Fantastic Four to Fox, and Spider Man to Sony. They used the money from these deals to pay for the whole Avengers shebang starting with Iron Man.

They don't have the rights forever; if they stop making movies about those characters the license will expire. That's actually the reason Sony is making that new Spider Man movie; if they don't do it by 2013 the license will revert to Marvel. And you know Marvel would jump all over that.

It could be Iron Patriot without being Norman Osborn. Guy Pearce is playing Aldrich Killian or whoever, put that ****er in the suit. Because while Norman Osborn is a Spider-Man character and would be included under the Sony license, his Iron Patriot identity is an Avengers character and would not be.

My hope is that they did this because Tony will be wearing a Silver Centurion variant again and they wanted Iron Patriot to look more different. Love the Silver Centurion look, Tony didn't get to wear it nearly enough in IM2.

Because there's no point in it being Iron Patriot (short of just being an armor cameo) if it's not Osborn, basically.

There's also no point to it being Norman Osborn without the entire Dark Reign, which doesn't make sense following The Avengers instead of Secret Invasion. This is pretty clearly a different character and possibly just an armor cameo. If IM3 is Armor Wars, expect to see tons of those.

Fox is making plans for a new Fantastic Four movie soon, with the director of Chronicle in charge, IIRC.

And I'm pretty sure it was reported that the guy in the suit is Eric Savin, AKA Coldblood. So it's just a design inspired by Iron Patriot (or Detroit Steel). He probably won't even be called anything besides Eric Savin; maybe Coldblood.

He’s expected to team up with a second cyborg named Firepower, both of whom are under the orders of The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce)

Yeah Fox has a lot of Marvel properties but nothing useful for a crossover really. Like I don't think X-Men, Daredevil, and the FF really team up very much. Too bad they don't have Spider-Man, because he teams up with all those guys so he could tie it all together. But without him, it just doesn't work.
