The gaming sphere really has changed. Just look at all the insulting comments in the GameSpot Pikmin 3 article about how unfair it is that Nintendo hasn't integrated online multiplayer. That's just completely required now, you know.

Fake realities are never scary. I just don't get the mindset behind this sort of thing.

Oh awesome, if it's just an option that'd be great. Honestly RE5 would've been more fun for me without the co-op thing. I don't want to have to be worrying about my partner dieing coz of stupidity. But also playing this online with Swift would be ballin' as hell.

I could have sworn in an interview they said it was RE5 style where you had an AI partner at nearly all times, and that if you played alone it just meant they had some parts where he would go ahead of you to solve a puzzle you couldn't do alone.

Whoa, Ayuyu missing the point of an article/taking things out of context? That's surprising.
The article is talking about how there are a lot of people who didn't play the old Dead Space games because they're too scary. This isn't a lie either. I know a bunch of people who didn't play the Dead Space games because they don't like horror. Giving the option to play co-op not only adds an extra element to the game for people who like the series, but it's also a way to get scaredy cats playing the game hopefully.

No fun allowed. But seriously, this would be meaningful if the gameplay they showed had ANY relation to the horror genre. This game is to the originals what Aliens is to Alien. (Not that Alien was particularly scary either, but you know what I mean. >_>)
Shake man, part of being a fan of a series is learning to adapt to the evolution of the series. Personally I'm so invested in the story of Dead Space that as long as the gameplay isn't atrocious I will buy it no matter what.

That's pretty much exactly NOT what they're doing.
Dead Space has always been more of an action horror style game. It's not really scary but I think the games are incredibly fun to play and I enjoy the story. One of my favorite series this gen and I'm eagerly looking forward to this one.

It has always been an atmospheric monster-closet style horror, with very very light survival elements. Limited ammo/health definitely helps with the tension, but usually the game is easy enough that these never become an issue like in actual survival horror games. It's definitely a lot of fun, and the "puzzle" style combat definitely keeps the game interesting instead of just being point and shoot.
Co-op has a lot of potential, since it will allow for weapon combos, and maybe will be able to increase tension with L4D style enemies that incapacitate one character, forcing the other to come save him.
