Nah this is pretty much an exclusively Board 8 thing. I mean Fighting gamers tend to do it too. Sometimes JRPG Message boards will do it. But Board 8 is one of the few places you'll find it common place.

I've had ranking discussions casually in real life and other places on the internet, but nowhere else gets so seriously into ranking as B8. We have no qualms about ranking anything, and we will have intense discussions about whether a game is the 74th most nostalgic game of all time, or the 73rd. And to do that requires both a deep and broad understanding of video games and other subjects, which is why this is the best place to talk about video games.

the most success I've had with these is that females will generally pretty easily rank male famous people

"rank these people in order of attractiveness: Will Smith, Bruce Willis, Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp" generated a lot of reaction and conversation. also they all thought Bruce Willis is ugly.
