Love that world map too.

Shame how much 2D Mario regressed.

Even if you prefer SMB1's style and engine, how can you possibly like it better than Lost Levels? LL has it beat in every possible way there is.

LL also has the opposite of level design.

It is meant to infuriate you.

LL is way more creative and fun. And it's actually challenging unlike SMB1.

If it takes LL's difficulty to please you, you must not like very many games.

I'll have to correct you TC, but only slightly.

9/10: Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Bros. 3
8/10: Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Bros.

The reason I don't give the Galaxy titles a 10 each is because of the Green Stars and cheesing the Luigi playthrough.

Ah, Super Mario 3D Land is also a 9/10 game.

It just feels like the level designs were really thought out. A lot of SMB1's levels feel half-assed and generic to me. In LL, I always know the next stage is going to be something crazy and exciting.

I can definitely enjoy easy games. Mega Man is my favorite video game series. But I'll take a harder creative game over a dull easy one.

I'd say LL is probably even my second favorite Mario game, behind Mario 64.

Coming from someone who can derp the entire game from 1-1 to D-4 and even World 9, I can tell you that Lost Levels is an unfriendly, unforgiving title that wasn't mean to be enjoyable. Its sole purpose is masochism, and they excel and screwing with you from start to finish.

In your case, I think I'd rather take an easy creative game over a hard title that purposely tries to punish the hell out of you. Just because I beat Contra 4 on Hard, 40/40 doesn't mean I ever want to do it again. I would sooner go back to my (insert #) dozenth playthrough of Sonic 1 on Genesis.

Also, keep in mind I don't play as Luigi in Lost Levels. I find Mario's challenge to be more welcoming in part because I feel I relate better to the character.

I'd take Contra 4 over Sonic 1 any day. Contra 4 is pretty fun (though, haven't tried it on hard mode yet) and Sonic 1 is really boring to me except for a couple of Zones.

Really? I can beat Sonic 1 all day. I dunno if it's just the music or the stage design.

I always loved platformer-Sonic better than speed-Sonic.

those are the top 4 off the top of my head

NSMBWii love is always a good thing! The level designs in that were tops. Loved the multiplayer too.

Also, I don't know how Bosco can say that Mario World plays exactly like Mario 3.

I'd have to wonder how recently he played either game if he thinks that.

Played Mario 3 pretty recently; been a while since World, I will say. Admittedly, the physics in World are pretty different; but the rest of the game didn't bring much new to the table, I don't think. And most of its new features either hurt the challenge level (I.E. being able to have a spare item during the stage) or weren't really executed properly (the dragon coins were way too easy to get).

I like LL more than most, but I still wouldn't put it in the upper echelon of Mario titles. I should play more of it, though - I never had the chance to play too much of it, so I never got to see the (supposedly insane) later levels.

As for Contra 4, that game is god-tier. Some of the most fun I've ever had as a gamer.
