Holy crap, that's in the top 5? Taste that exquisite almost makes up for the blunder in your top 4. Almost...
As for the latest writeup it pretty much echoes my sentiments exactly. Ariel: great voice wasted on an ungrateful brat of a character, but man that song. I wish the reprise was longer, because despite the emotion in Ariel's many faces (which are fantastic- love the "Buuuuuuurn" face most of all) throughout the song, I prefer the depth and vocal power of the reprise to the original.
>It's called setting up the narrative. DEAL with it >Not even gonna dignify that one with a response >Well that's a matter of opinion. Can't really argue that, but I for one quite like the melody >You mean the background choir? That's one of the few cases of disembodied voices done RIGHT.
And I will counter with this regarding Outcasts: >No real setup at all to this one >Boring female voice >Easy to tell there's a different actress providing Esme's singing voice (I HATE that) >Unnecessary high note at the end (Feels out of whack when compared to the rest of the song, like the director just told her- "Oh, you can hit high notes? Throw one on at the end then.")
>The other 50 movies did just fine without stupid talking reducing the songs into an helpless mess >Come on, it's boring. He should just speak but he really shouldn't sing. >ok >Yeah, they're done well but they don't mix well with the speaking parts
>And the other 50 movies didn't produce one of the two best openings to an animated Disney movie ever. Coincidence? I THINK NOT! >Clopin's voice is a lot of things: magnification, marvelous, magical... "Boring" is not something I'd describe it with. >Yeah... >I don't know what you're talking about. It blends seamlessly for me!
>Movies with better openings: Every movie between Snow White and The Seven Dwarves and Wreck-it-Ralph. >Yeah maybe he put a voodoo curse at you to make you think so. Seek professional help ASAP. >See point #2
More like... >Movies that might possibly have better openings: Tarzan and Tarzan ONLY >I think you're just biased against male vocalists. I mean you pretty much admitted you preferred female vocals by a wide margin when you did your own ranking topic >Clopin rules. This conversation is over.
(Also to be fair, Stifled does not hate it, he just thinks it's perfectly average [probably because it indisputably is] and I just don't understand the love for it and believe it to be an inferior version of an existing song- not really hate)
