Now that's how Itachi's farewell needed to be handled.

Most people seem to hate Itachi for most of his actions and choices, but dammit, he's still a top Naruto character for me.

Nah, too much of a Mary Sue. He can literally do no wrong.

He was ok before these last 5 or 6 chapters, but dear God, Kishi really messed up things up. This last chapter of him was somewhat redeeming, but he is now a very low tier type of character for me.

I thought they beat that story to death already with the several flashbacks. I don't think I even want to know the REAL story at this point, but I'll bite. What happened?

Pretty much just the story that Danzou and Tobi both told, except this time has pictures! Oh and Danzou gave Itachi the ultimatum of either killing everyone or everyone, but Sasuke.

Of course we know what he chose

Basically it was just a filler chapter to give Itachi a proper farewell.

Basically the Third wanted to avoid the fighting.
Shisui tried to stop the Uchiha's coup d'etat but got one of his eyes stolen by Danzou. He then just casually rips his remaining eye out, and gives it to Itachi. He asks Itachi to protect the village and the Uchiha's name.
Danzou gives Itachi a choice: Stand with his clan and see it completely destroyed by the Leaf, causing the other villages to attack it and start a war, or stand by the Leaf's side, kill his clan, and save Sasuke.
Itachi tells Madara he will help him get revenge on the Uchiha clan, but he must not lay a hand on the village, or Sasuke.
And before Itachi kills his parents, his dad tells him that he's proud of him, and for him to take care of Sasuke. Itachi hesitates killing them, but his dad tells him to go through with it.

XFD well that is a lot more info than the other post provided. Man that story took a turn for the hilarious. Definitely better as it was in the beginning.
