lol what? dumb nickelodeon

or maybe the video player just screwed up? I've had some where the video stopped loading early but it brought up the overlay that usually only appears when you get to the end of the video.

I've tried reloading the video, but it stops at the same place.

Well, it's a double length episode, are you sure there's not a part two video somewhere on there?

There's a video that claims to be a two-part episode, and shows the entirity of episode one but only about half of episode two.

I don't know why everyone is so upset about stuff. It's perfectly acceptable to have a glorious sacrifice and then have it not actually work. The point was that Lin was willing to do it.

Besides the show gets thousands of brownie points for the last scene with Tarlokk and Amon. Wow.

This, I don't understand the mindset about being angry with this. Lin sacrificed herself, the only real downside is how easily Korra gave her back the bending. But I kind of expected it would be easy to reverse it, as I expected Amon wasn't really taking away the bending.

Not sure why people are saying that at all.

The Last Airbender was incredibly high quality all the way through without cheap plot devices like this. Well, except for one or two bad episodes.

You mean when the last three episodes dealt heavily with Aang killing a man to the reveal that he could just take his bending away?

I can see people being upset with Aang not having to kill Ozai, but that was really not poorly done at all.

The last half of season 3 dealt with Aang struggling with how to deal with the Firelord. He has to be stopped because he is clearly a monster and incredibly powerful, so if you don't deal with him permanently he will still cause trouble. But Aang isn't sure he's capable of killing the guy. Yes, energy bending did come a bit out of nowhere, but it fit perfectly in line with the development Aang was having and was a way of solving the situation his way. Energy bending itself wasn't foreshadowed much, but Aang feelings were and that's what really mattered.

I don't even think they tiptoed around the idea of killing just because it's a kids show. Sokka was quite clearly shown to be willing to kill the firelord. Aang had his own ideas and that was fine.

If you were to compare that to the equivalent part of Korra, it's the final Aang show up where he cures Korra's bending problem. Similar to energy bending, that kind of appeared out of nowhere. Except the reason that happened was because... Korra hit rock bottom supposedly. Literally right there. There was nothing leading to this scene to expect this other than "lol everything will work out in the end" Korra never pondered "what will things be like if I lose my bending?" She was just like IMA RUN IN THERE EVEN THOUGH WE ARE VASTLY OUTNUMBERED AND BEAT UP AMON. Now that she's lost her bending she's just suddenly suicidal or something. It's not exactly an unreasonable reaction, but with the amount of time devoted to it, it's so poorly done.

While I'm at it, I think a lot of people have the wrong idea about Ozai. They think he's "bad" or "poorly done" because he doesn't have the depth other characters like Azula, Iroh, or Zuko had. He's mostly just an incredibly powerful evil bad guy archetype that wanted world domination. There was really nothing wrong with that. The series primarily focused on the journey of the Gaang and the people they encountered as they built up and prepared for that final encounter. The characters that they encountered were all very colourful with all kinds of things going on. Ozai had one purpose: to be the power hungry tyrant Aang had to defeat. He had that all in spades. He had the arrogance, he had the endless amounts of power, and he had the ruthlessness. Just looking at him in any scene he was in and you get that vibe. That was really all he needed to be and he did great at it.

Now, that means he's not going to be ahead of any major characters in rankings, but that doesn't really matter. It was great for the show for him just to be what he was. They could have added more facets to his character, and maybe if they had more episodes in the final season they would have, but all the show needed out of him was what it got, and there's really not a problem with that.

I could see being a bit disappointed with him just because you might want him to be as fleshed out as the rest of the cast of the ATLA. ..... But clearly you guys aren't applying that metric to anything in Korra.

Well there was that one episode where she was "terrified" of Amon and waking up with nightmares and whatnot.

They needed to keep playing that angle I think. Instead she "got over it" at the end of the episode and dropped the idea.

He had that all in spades. He had the arrogance, he had the endless amounts of power, and he had the ruthlessness. Just looking at him in any scene he was in and you get that vibe. That was really all he needed to be and he did great at it.

"endless amounts of power"?

Eh, they established that he was a bad father.
They established that he was willing to engage in dirty politics to be the leader.
They established that he was more powerful than Zuko when Zuko was a kid.
They established that a young airbender named aang was afraid of him.

They did not establish how much ACTUAL strength he had. Ozai did not have any real feats. Azula had feats galore and she felt like an actual threat. How many combat feats did Ozai show? I can't remember any until the final battle starts and his strength in that battle was heavily reliant on Sozen's comet.

imo they needed Ozai to do some major damage against people. I'm not sure how they would write it in exactly, maybe just every once in awhile show him personally leading forces and doing major work against a group of earth benders or something. Just ANYTHING to give the fear aang showed more credibility.

I did NOT see the Tarlokk ending coming at all. Props for that. Though it does make me question what the threat is next year. Especially since Korra's now fully Avatar'd out.

If she had to go on a spirit journey for a season while the new threat arises that would be a potentially awesome plot.

I thoroughly enjoyed this season despite its flaws, though the post murder-suicide bits undermined it a bit. Looking forward to the next season, but not as much as when I thought it would be a continuation of the Amon story and potentially have Korra having to get her powers back.

I think the ending would have been superb if it had just left Korra alone with Naga (or, perhaps, with Mako and Naga) in the snow. I can understand that a lot of people reacted badly to the crammed events after that (I did too). But I think the finale as a whole was an amazing piece of animation. I prefer it to the end of season 3 of TLA (though not to S1's and S2's).

Episode ranking:

1. And The Winner Is... (E6)
2. When Extremes Meet (E8)
3. The Revelation (E3)
4. Out of the Past (E9)
5. The Voice in the Night (E4)
6. Welcome to Republic City (E1)
7. Skeletons in the Closet (E11)
8. Turning the Tides (E10)
9. The Aftermath (E7)
10. A Leaf in the Wind (E2)
11. Endgame (E12)
12. The Spirit of Competition (E5)

And just to see in how many episodes there were instances of characters being kidnapped/captured, let's see (if you ever watch TLA season one again, note them).

1. Welcome to Republic City
- Korra is arrested by Lin's police for her fighting with the Triads. Tenzin intervenes to free Korra.

2. A Leaf in the Wind
None.

3. The Revelation
- The Equalists kidnap the gang leaders and Bolin. Bolin is freed by Korra and Mako before Amon can take his bending.

4. The Voice in the Night
- Tarrlok's taskforce, including Korra, capture a group of Equalists in their hideout.
- Korra is captured and then released by Amon.

5. The Spirit of Competition
None.

6. And The Winner Is...
- The Equalists take over the bending arena, effectively kidnapping everyone inside it.
- Korra, Mako and Bolin are knocked unconscious by the Lieutenant and tied to a pillar holding up the fighting area.
- Tahno has his bending taken by Amon.

7. The Aftermath
- Lin's police force arrest the owner of the cabbage factory.
- Satoshi traps Korra, Lin, Tenzin and some of Lin's police underground. Bolin and Mako are also kidnapped when they attempt to intervene. Asami's intervention saves the main cast, but Lin's men aren't so lucky.

8. When Extremes Meet
- Korra, Bolin, Mako and Asami capture a group of Equalists and hand them over to the police.
- Saikhan's police, assisted by Tarrlok, arrest a huge number of non-benders. They also arrest Bolin, Mako and Asami. Lin later releases them.
- Korra is kidnapped by Tarrlok and taken away from Republic City.

9. Out of the Past
- Korra remains kidnapped by Tarrlok for most of the episode, eventually escaping thanks to Amon and her own quick thinking.
- Tarrlok is kidnapped by Amon, and has his bending removed.

10. Turning the Tides
- Equalists kidnap the council members and take their bending.
- Equalists attempt to kidnap Saikhan's men at the police station, and are at first successful, overcoming Tenzin's resistance. Korra, Bolin, Mako and Asami arrive and rescue them.
- Lin is captured atop an airship and has her bending taken by Amon.

11. Skeletons in the Closet
- Amon removes the bending of captured Republic City citizens en masse.
- Tarrlok is found in a cell by Korra and Mako, and remains there.

12. Endgame
- Bolin, Iroh and Asami are captured by Satoshi's men after walking into an electrified fence. They're released when Naga intervenes.
- Amon reveals he has captured Tenzin and his family. They are freed thanks to Korra and Mako.
- Amon uses bloodbending to capture Korra and Mako. He takes Korra's bending.

I would like to point out that while I do seem to be defending the ending (mostly the idiocy of thinking Lin's sacrifice was cheapened), it really was resolved far too quickly. Even if they'd just cut it off at her Avatar Stating, it would have been much better than the super crammed ending they did make.

And yes, they probably didn't know they had a second season when they planned it. Edit it after the fact or end it on a cliffhanger if you have to, I don't care. The last few minutes were just bad.
