Well they don't have space to sign both. In fact, I doubt they sign either. Suter said he wants to stay in the West (my bet is on Minny) and I think Parise resigns with the Devils.

I'm always in favour of putting the Avs at a disadvantage.
The Avs would easily match any offer by any team. They are millions below the salary floor right now, and it doesn't look like they're interested in signing free agents. They will give big salaries to each player just to make the cap floor and will probably stay there for the rest of the year.

Sick class this year, of course with Burnaby Joe leading the way!
Surprised Shanahan was skipped. Thought for sure he was getting in. Who is eligible next year?

Rob Blake Scott Niedermayer Rob Brind'amour Owen Nolan Bill Guerin Paul Kariya Keith Tkachuk Chris Chelios
Hmm. Out of this group, I think only Niedermayer and maybe Chelios are first ballot HoFers. I'm hoping Andreychuk gets in next year as well. Shanahan should be the fourth for sure.

For some reason I find Bure in the HOF a bit weird. I get that he's an immense talent and his stats per game are good too (though it's always easier to have good stats per game if you don't play well past your prime), but... I dunno, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's because he only went to the playoffs five times, ever, and he was on those late 90's Canucks teams which had a lot of talent but failed miserably.
Very glad Adam Oates got in. Obviously Sakic was the class of this year, but of the eligible guys, I think Oates impressed me the second most. He was just an incredibly gifted passer, and that's an ability I think a lot of hockey followers underrate due to goals being flashier.
Unlike most of the reaction I've seen, I actually consider Sundin vs. Shanahan a tossup, but maybe that's just years and years of Toronto-biased CBC coverage subtly brainwashing me! More seriously, though, I think one difference is that Sundin was "the guy" in Toronto. Shanahan was rarely ever "the guy" anywhere... the one who faced the most pressure or was keyed in on by opposing the checkers. Now there's not necessarily any shame in that (Ron Francis was that on the 90's Penguins after all, and he's one of the all-time greats), but I bet it's a reason as to why Sundin got in despite inferior numbers and arguably a less complete game.

No he wasn't. He got traded to the Panthers when the Canucks were still hanging out near the bottom of the league. It wasn't until after he was on Florida that the Canucks started getting better.
edit - Unless you meant them being at the bottom of the standings was them failing miserably. I was thinking you were talking about those Bertuzzi/Morrison/Naslund Canucks that did well in the season but terrible in the playoffs.

ONLY FIVE CAN LADDER. Sushi, kamikaze, fujiyama, nippon-ichi...

He mistakenly said late instead of mid, but his point still stands. Bure, Linden, Messier, Mogilny, Lumme, McLean - lot of talent and it quickly went to hell.
Wideman to Calgary. $5.25 cap hit over 5 years. Jeez. I was thinking $4 and a bottom pairing guy on an elite team.

Also, at 5.8 million per year, does this mean Quick is making less than Price?
Well Price is an RFA at the moment so technically he isn't making anything right now! He was getting paid 2.2 mil on his last deal though.
And Quick isn't getting $5.8 per. He's likely getting $7 mil+ for the majority of the contract and then peanuts for the last few years to bring the cap hit down to $5.8. It's one of those deals.

Meh, I don't bother with that crap. Whenever I think of how much someone is making, I just divide the total amount by the years (which is 5.8 for Quick).

I personally think ALL of those 8/10/12 year deals are incredibly stupid and every single one of them will come back to haunt the teams that gave them out. We've already seen it with guys like Luongo, DiPietro, Bryz, etc. Those long contracts are just way too risky and not worth the slightly lower cap hit.
Price is rumoured to be signing a 5-6 year deal at around or slightly over $6 mil per. Much safer contract in my opinion.

probably already mentioned if true, but did Criesby get a 100 million dollar contract for 12 years?
Holy ****.
Yep.

Wow. He'll proably pull a Gretzky and get traded to a team that needs more fans after he wins a couple more cups. He saved Pittsburgh, maybe he can save Dallas.

exactly. No one cared about the pens before Crosby showed up. Now they're one of the most popular teams in the league. I think he'll get traded to Dallas to save that sorry team, just not in the near future.

Every generation, a couple of teams get lucky with players that transcend the game.
And some teams like the Rangers don't even need them.
Though really this happens in a lot of sports. Its just more noticeable in hockey
