Preferably a space opera. I haven't read a sci-fi book not by Neal Stephenson in literally years, I've been busy with fantasy.

I won't go into the things I've already read (though I've already read Dune), but nothing Warhammer 40K, Star Wars, or Star Trek-related.

Hyperion (and the sequel, Fall of Hyperion (the first ends in a cliffhanger)) by Dan Simmons. You won't regret it.
