B.We didn't win the round :(

Donovan's Goal united everyone for a solid 24 hours. That was one of the most fun nights of my life because everyone was in a good mood.

The drama of it was also top notch. here you have Algeria camping out to screw us over and when all looks lost we pull a break out of nowhere, and then the first shot MISSES, and then Landon cleans it up. Just phenomenal.

And yes I'm in the Las Vegas video. You it's too shaky and drunk to see anything but I remember the camera being there.

This seriously led to the best day of my life.

My friends and I were watching the whole game, getting more angst by the minute, yelling at refs and the players, and from about the 85th minute on, we'd just given up and were sulking on the various couches and chairs, not even moving. From Tim Howard's throw forward, you could see each of us inching closer and closer to the TV. When Dempsey's shot missed, each of us had this little yelp, but then Donovan's went in, and we all just started screaming and piling on each other. I waited 5 seconds for them to put the goal on the board to make sure it wasn't waved off for bull**** reasons, and then I jumped on top.

After a minute or so, we just looked over at one my friends' 2-year old girl who was just silent, watching us with eyes wide open. Then she just started bawling. We consoled her, waited for them to call time, and then we celebrated.

We drove to the nearby city to Wal-Mart and bought a bunch of mini-USA flags, and a big net. Then we went back to the car, rolled all our windows down, and chanted USA through the streets. We stopped at the local sporting goods place and bought a regulation World Cup soccer ball while we were there, then took every song that played on the way home and turned them into lyrics about the game, i.e. instead of Kiss's Lick it Up, we sang "KICK IT IN! KICK IT IN! DOOOOONOOOOOVAN (AND SAVE THE DAY NOW)".

When we got back home, we tied the net between these two trees at the park and played pick-up soccer games until the sun set. It was ****ing fantastic.

The Arshavin goal against Barca is the best moment for any real Arsenal fan this decade because not only was it a wonderful team goal, but it was one of AW's defining moments. We beat the 'best' club in the world, not by throwing 11 behind the ball and playing anti-football, but by outplaying them at their own game when NO ONE gave us a chance. We may have lost the tie, but this was because of the officials.


The Donovan goal was a great moment, no doubt. But to take away from the Arshavin goal just because we didn't win the tie is like saying the Donovan goal is diminished because we lost to Ghana in the next round.

Extha it was moreso because it was an "America' thing.

That goal was bigger than a specific franchise or club. Kobe winning his first ring without Shaq or Kobe single handedly carrying the Lakers to 3-1 over the Suns with the greatest selection of shots and moves ever seen or Kobe scoring 81 points(still a ridiculous number by the way) are all up there for me on a personal level.

But when Donovan's goal went in people who don't even LIKE soccer were going nuts. The British fans at the pub were celebrating and cheering with us like it was their own damn team. It was a once in a lifetime moment.

I texted and called you when Arshavin scored that goal. We were ecstatic. I got drunker than I've ever been that day. But the rest of the world didn't flinch.
