17. Beat a first-person shooter

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

A lot of people were disappointed with this game, and I agree that it's not as great as the others, but it's still more Borderlands, and Borderlands is great. I still have a couple side missions as well as the DLC to get through, but I had a fantastic time with this game.

23. Beat a sports game

Disc Jam

Also decided to add this in because I feel like I've done everything there is to do in it at this point. I've gotten all the trophies, and without competitive matchmaking (yet), it's come to the point where I'm easily beating 95% of the people I meet online.

I regularly get whooped by B8ers, but until a competitive mode is added, I feel like I've "beaten" this game.

Jane Austen Mysteries - Peril in Pemberley

I stand by the Nancy Drew series as being an excellent series of point-and-click games. With that said, this game was atrocious. It felt like a shallow imitation of the Nancy Drew series.

12. Beat a game made by a developer you've never tried

Pony Island

Time to start clearing out some Steam backlog! The ~meta~ aspects fell a bit flat due to the story being too over-the-top and edgy to take seriously, but it's enough of a fun and polished game in its own right to make up for it.

49. Choose a random page on TVTropes and beat something from the video game section

Fire Emblem: Awakening

davidponte posted...
How "random" does the TVtropes page selected need to be? Can I keep clicking random until I find something that might actually be doable?

In any case, I was on the site for unrelated reasons and found myself going through random tropes until I came across "Ojou" and some of the games on the list are ones I have some vague interest in and hopefully will get around to this year, so I'm posting it here to remind myself to play them to satisfy the challenge at some point.

This post from page 3 a couple months ago was in reference to this game! Overall, an extremely great experience, and easily the best 3DS game I've played thus far. Despite the fact that I've significantly enjoyed every SRPG that I've played, I never considered it to be one of may favourite genres of game, but after another excellent one, it's clear that the genre belongs near the top of my list.

This game threw a lot at you, but for the most part, I managed to figure things out on my own. I played on casual because I didn't have any interest in resetting every time I lost a unit, although I made every effort not to play stupid and take advantage of it. I managed to get most of the children, so by the end my team was so overpowered that I didn't really have to worry about units dying.

I honestly think my Kjelle could solo every map in the game, she was incredibly overpowered.

1. Beat a game released before 1990
Mega Man

This one was a bit of a challenge. I remember playing the second one on my granddad's NES a few years back and having never played the other titles I decided to buy the Legacy Collection and boy, is Mega Man really fun even if it is difficult. I admire the level of difficulty the games bring to the table.

No Man's Sky

Fun game. I see where all the complaints come from, and the game did kinda overstay its welcome (it would be better as, say, a 10-hour game). But I enjoyed roaming around and searching for dinosaurs and seeing all the different kinds of planets. I'm easily amused, I guess.

21. Beat a strategy game

XCOM 2

This game was stressful, but a lot of fun. I'm generally bad at XCOM, and for some reason was never able to beat the final level in the first game. I also lost my first run of this 5 hours in because I wasn't really paying attention to which research and building was optimal, and my whole team ended up being too wounded or dead to do anything.

The second run went very well, and up until the final fight, without many hitches. I managed to get out of that final room with only one death, surprisingly, but it could have gone a lot worse. It essentially came down to me needing to hit a 37% shot to get the final enemy back into range of my remaining soldiers, and with one of them mind-controlled, it was do or die. It was at that point that the RNG gods looked down on me, because not only did I hit that shot, but I instantly killed it, thanks to my weapon upgrade that granted a 5% chance of execution.

I'm kind of relieved to be done. I also played on the second difficulty so none of this is really noteworthy.
