Phase 3 of Restricted Free Agency

All users who have players that were signed to contracts by other teams will have until Monday, March 6th at 11:59 PM ET to decide if they should match the contract or let them sign with the new team in exchange for the draft pick or picks tied to them.

Only two users total were affected, so should this get wrapped up before the deadline, I will go ahead and start the next offseason event and give people more time with it.

Signing Your Remaining Free Agents

Any player of yours whose contract expired and was not part of the previous event will be included here. This is an extremely straightforward event. You either sign or you do not sign players, Those you do stay on your team, those who don't enter the free agent pool.

When you receive the PM with your slashlines, remember that those are not the deals you have to sign them to. With one exception that I will lay out, you can sign anyone to deals 1-7 years in length. If you wish to give a player a custom offer, I am available to do this live through Sunday. After that, we can bounce PMs off each other. If you wish to offer someone a deal of a different length but do no want to bother with the financials, you can merely say you want to give X player the default deal for Y years.

There are only two wrinkles for this event. One is that a few players might hold out for better deals. I can confirm that two users have holdouts. What happens is that I will isolate them in the PM and tell you their base deals. If you elect not to sign them, they will stay on your team without playing a down for you until you trade them, release them, or give into their contract demands.

The second wrinkle is that some players hate your team to where they will only sign via the franchise tag, which is a one year deal that pays them the average of the Top 5 salaries at their position. I will isolate those players and also tell you how much money that comes out to as of this moment. Nobody has ever used the franchise tag in B8NFLL, so I am not expecting anyone will use it, but you never know.

I probably would have, but I thought I remembered him being injured at some point last year, and when you gave me his injury stat, I did not want to spend what I thought it would take to get him away from you since unlike the Seahawks, I didn't have the 3rd pick in the draft to offer.

Kroul was inserted into the starting lineup often last season because the two DTs in front of him missed a couple games each at different points in the season. He has never missed a game due to injury.

Also, the player decides which contract to sign. I have no say in the matter. If Kroul would have liked your offer more than the Seahawks, then he would have signed with the Bills.

I understand that part. I simply meant that I assumed if he had agreed to an offer on the lower end with the Bills, you'd be more inclined to match since my draft picks are less valuable. Unless you're saying you weren't going to match no matter what the offer.

So, in my mind at least, I thought I'd need to offer him a hefty salary to stop you from matching.

Kroul in particular I was keen on matching until I did see that the team with the #3 overall pick was offering him a contract, and I had an 83 overall, 24-year-old DT that I could plug in the rotation instead.

I'm amazed at people's willingness to let guards go. I mean this draft could be different but I've been trying to get a guard every season now without being able to get squat.

Also as an FYI, the compromise did come into play as I made a better offer to one of those signed RFA's

You might want to re-check that PM. You offered less money on both fronts for the same amount of years than the Pioneers did.

Also, you have to see that I have a 99 and 96 at both G spots. One is 28, the other is 33, which means they each have many, many seasons ahead of them. One has never missed a start in his career, the other has missed 8 games across 7 seasons.

I had 0 reason to hold onto expensive backups that had value to other franchises and would have otherwise likely demanded trades in the near future.

As for why Sultan gave up Chris Scott, I have no idea.

All PMs have been sent. The new deadline will be Wednesday, March 15th at 11:59 PM ET. That way, I can put up draft prospects on Thursday and give people at least a week to decide how they wish to approach the draft or work out pre-draft trades.

As for stuff regarding what we are currently doing, I decided against including first-year cap hits because I have to go through additional menus and it would easily double the time it takes to normally send out PMs. If anyone needs to know first-year cap hits for their decisions, feel free to ask me.
