One hit from killing the spider, so of course I get hit from off camera and die.

Zooming the character out, locking the camera, or moving the character farther away from the screen would all fix this, but hey this is the greatest system of all time guys. Totally defensible to do stupid s*** like this four games into a series.

This is the one fight where I'd say your camera issues might actually have some weight since there's so many mobs.

You gotta start manually manipulating it when needed like we've said though, it's only going to continue if you don't, and there's a boss in one of the DS3 DLCs that very deliberately expects you to swing the camera behind you manually for one move. If you don't you're pretty f***ed!

I didn't lock on at all during the fight. Pretty obvious the game wants you do when stabbing a spider in the face does 20 and stabbing it in the ass does 310.

Oh, the call of the blood moon. Gee willickers, am I the Cthulhu?

I will say that the giant spider fight was decent, and the big spider that kidnapped me earlier sitting there above the rebirth chalice was creepy as s***. If you're going with the Lovecraft lore you HAVE to get it right. This game gets atmosphere right.

Rom's power was preventing the people in Yharnam (including yourself) from seeing the true insanity that was going on around you. prepare for the game to get a lot more wicked.

interesting note; if you raise your Insight score high enough you can see these effects early on even before defeating Rom.

Yeah the fact that you can see the creatures on the buildings with at least 40 insight prior to Rom was one of the insight mechanics I was referring to earlier.

Insight also changes some enemy attacks and visuals. If you go look at the lanterns the priests are carrying in Cathedral Ward with enough insight they look different and have a new move. IIRC it's 30 that triggers that.

It also works with the status effect Frenzy, in that the higher your insight is the lower your frenzy resist is.

woo this topic has inspired me to play bloodborne again. man I really love this game so much. this is gonna be my 7th run, I believe. and hopefully if I get enough practice in and still feel like playing I will feel confident enough to continue my gun only challenge.

here is the build I just came up with;

mostly I just picked two weapons that have similar scaling/synergies and that I haven't used too much before. I think it's gonna be fun! I'll record some vids if anyone is interested but I would probably make my own topic since I don't want to flood Ulti's topic with my own gameplay and stuff.

edit; it's also noteworthy that the Boomhammer will be inherently better against Beasts while the Amygdalan Arm will be inherently better as an all-purpose weapon. that means if I start using the top level Cursed gems I can do weak vs Kin on the Boomhammer and weak vs Beasts on the Amygdalan for maximum efficiency. that's a case where I'd be swapping to the other weapon anyway, and it's a trend I've tried to follow in the past. one weapon for beasts, one weapon for kin. switch as needed.

Oh, right. So this is one of the few places you'd normally get invaded in this game. Shame you won't get that.

I don't know if you still get the same thing offline, but if so that's what the bell-ringing woman is about. You can actually find her and kill her to stop the invasions.

Nightmare Frontier might be my least favorite area. I hate the aesthetics. And yeah, poison enemies can be cool (this game does a good job with them), but poison areas suck.

Btw, what are your stats looking like? Usually, if you can beat Logarius, you're basically at the "can beat the game" level.

Slapping on an element and going ARC is basically just as good because it's actually one of the best ARC scaling weapons, but it's impossible to know that since almost everything including Ludwig's starts at D ARC scaling.

Yeah, until you find out about elemental blood gems, the ARC scaling makes no sense whatsoever on the weapons you get to that point. If you know where to look on the level up screen you can at least tell that leveling ARC doesn't help your damage, but that's about it. And even once you know how it works, there's no way to tell which ones are actually good.

I don't know if getting a split-type weapon like the Tonitrus earlier would have made it more or less confusing.

While many of the poison areas often feel lacking, imo dark souls 3 has a really really good poison level done right, I legit really like that level. So you have that to look forward to when you do dark souls 3.

I feel some may disagree but it's pretty much the best a poison area is gonna get.

the bell ringing ladies are the ones reviving the corpses. this applies in both the chalice dungeons and yahar'gul. the goal is to find the bell ringing lady and kill her so she stops reviving enemies. usually she is not too hard to find, since she only revives enemies within a certain radius.

think of it less like infinite respawning enemies and more like you dueling a summoner... with all of their summons that they can keep bringing into the fight until you stop them.

The enemies look like they're made of blood because they're being summoned. When they re-pop, I think you should be hearing a bell. Basically, just like how the Nightmare Frontier had that bell lady for invasions I mentioned, each "group" of enemies has a bell lady summoning them here. Killing them won't kill all of the enemies they are controlling (in the Chalice Dungeons it does actually), but it will stun them all and then they'll all take double damage. Kill them in this state and they'll stay dead.

The other difference is that the bell ladies respawn everytime as opposed to the pvp versions.

You should have found the first 2 with very little difficulty. After that they tend to get a little tougher, the third one in particular is tough for some to find. However, it's super worth finding that one because it also leads to something else.

Walls are your one camera issue I'd semi-agree with, but again, these are issues you should have been having just as bad if not worse in the other games. Not counting chalice dungeons which you're not doing, spaces are on the whole more open in this game.

You might have noticed an item locked within a cell (I think a dead guy on a chair was in there). Did you get that? It's a key that opens up arguably the coolest optional area in the game.

Yeah, that's what I meant by finding the 3rd bell keeper. She's on the path you take to get that item.

From the second lamp, backtracking up the laser stairs, there's a gap in the railing to the left you can drop past the stairs but just before the smaller staircase. Of course I'd suggest taking the longer path from the first lamp because going up the laser stairs is terrible to do.

Also, fwiw I don't think the game even released with a guide. There was one made later by some of the bigger names in the Souls community, but it's really more of a novelty item. There's nothing you can't look up online for these games and they know it.
