I rather like having a platform that's different from the rest. Switch ain't perfect but it's really cool.

Although really as far as your opening post goes you can consider your wish granted! Nintendo's only got one platform now and it is indeed a portable system...!

nintendo continues to do a lot for the industry and tries new things, which is great. if anyone can leave it's microsoft's xbox division - they can just go all in with PC.

Absolutely. Having to shell out a ton of extra money every couple years for an outdated system just to play the Nintendo exclusives is a really terrible system for the fans.

I love Nintendo's pursuit of hardware innovations...but now that I'm big on Steam it's hard to go back to buying consoles, and living outside of NYC anymore makes buying portable less desirable nowadays (though still nice).

I'll probably get a Switch after skipping the Wii U and not owning the Wii I played, but I wouldn't be mad if they only asked me to invest in cool controllers for PCs instead of an entire system.

It's really easy if you love video games as a medium and appreciate the literally TENS OF THOUSANDS of hours artists put into the visuals of each game they work on

Nope. About the only series I really care about these days are Fire Emblem and Smash Bros and since Nintendo consoles tend to be cheaper than their competitors, I'd just end up paying more if they went third party.

Nintendo is the only hardware company I care about. I'd be perfectly okay in a world where everything is just PC/mobile while Nintendo games + indie games and some odd Japanese things exist on a handheld.

If the same people are going to work on the same franchises, it won't make much difference. People will get upset at first, but they'll buy the games anyway and enjoy them as much as ever. There just won't be the pride of exclusivity.

I do enjoy this world where a 3-4 month period for a moderate sized team at a mid-level company like Obsidian is suddenly unsustainable.
