Ugggghhh, I love obscure Japanese rhythm games.

That is one solid looking controller, gameplay kind of reminds me of DJ Hero.

They make Beatmania controllers and stuff too. It's an SVSE5 from Gamo.

Oh holy hell. I've been so tempted to try getting a version of Sound Voltex running at home because of how awesome it is in the arcades. Mainly stopped because getting arcade versions of rhythm games running on your PC basically requires membership to an EXTREMELY exclusive site and it's a pain in the ass to get in.

I had no idea K-Shoot Mania existed until now! It looks like it's basically a Stepmania for Sound Voltex, down to being able to add all the charts you want? I might be tempted to drop some cash on that controller myself if so. >_>

Yeah, people have built charts for Sound Voltex I, II, III, IV, and V. And then there's hundreds (maybe thousands?) of other songs and charts. And there's a bunch of skins to make it look like whatever you want, including other Sound Voltex games.

What are the key differences between your controller and the Virgoo Turbocharger? Quick googling seems to put those two as the go-to controllers for this but I'm seeing pretty split opinions without many details on why one would prefer either. (The idea of being able to play literally every Sound Voltex game at home has me pretty prepared to drop some dosh on this.)

A lot of what I've seen is exaggeration. The Virgoo Turbocharger is a great controller and has some more flashy lights which is a plus of course. Many Turbocharger opinions were based on customization options -- the copal encoders and omrons in the buttons -- that were previously unavailable for the Gamo2 controllers, but now are.

Here's the issue with Virgoo: it's impossible to contact them. I ordered a Turbocharger 2.0+ on January 22. I paid $250 and waited. And waited. And waited. I sent four emails, and used the contact form on their site twice. I messaged them on Facebook and Twitter. More than a dozen people were in the same position as me because they got swamped during Christmas and the Chinese New Year.

I'm sure they'll catch up eventually, but I couldn't take the no contact from them. And if your controller has issues, it's nearly impossible to get ahold of them for support. Gamo2 is much easier to contact and for that I disputed my Virgoo order on Paypal and ordered from Gamo. After waiting 2 full months from Virgoo, Gamo2 got me my controller in four days.

It's worth noting, though, that I ordered a SVSE5 with copal knobs and 50g omron microswitches from their US Storehouse. Basically this allowed me to get one without worrying about shipping or it coming from Japan. The US Storehouse doesn't have what I ordered anymore, but they do have one with the copal knobs, just not the omron microswitches. I honestly don't know how much that matters but I know for sure you at least want Copal knobs.

So if you're in the US, your options are the SVSE5 with Copal knobs at $219 free shipping or to get the exact controller I have, you have to pay around $300 with shipping

Good to know, thanks a bunch!

Between this and the home version of Future Tone coming out I'm finding fewer and fewer reasons to go to Round One. >_>

I dunno what Future Tone is but I'm loving this controller a whole lot. And there seems to be an endless stream of songs charted for K-Shoot Mania. I'm right on the cusp of going down a dark hole and buying a Jubeat controller from Gamo, and maybe even a Beatmania and Pop'n Music controller down the line. But Jubeat would be the best because I already have a spare 26'' monitor that would work with it.

If you get one of these controllers we def. need to have an ongoing topic about it. I'm new to the game, bought the controller before ever playing it. But I love it just as much as I thought I would. If you think you want to get the SVSE5 with Copal Knobs that's currently in the US storehouse, I'm not sure how many they have it's always a limited stock.

Yeah I've played only a little bit of Sound Voltex in arcades but it's definitely a blast. I probably will snag a controller a little down the road to start playing, but for now I'm in a mad dash to finish Zelda, Nier and Tales of Berseria before Persona 5 comes out. Last thing I need is an endlessly playable rhythm game to devour my time.

In 2-3 months once everything's cleared up a bit, I'll start a topic if/when I snag one and start playing, though.~
