Because he's a s***ty debater trying to win a debate by using whatever evidence he could to try and win it. Like, he probably did believe that article was true, but he probably didn't think it was racist. His entire stance was "I think we have racial equality in America", so I don't think the dude is racist like everyone seems to claim. He just had a very poor way of going about that topic because, again, he's an awful debater who was in over his head.

However, it seems far fetched that a YouTube channel with only 3 million subscribers could manage to lose a full SIXTH of those subscribers AND regain most of them in such a short period of time. I'm not saying foolmo is wrong, but I'd need to see more evidence to back up his claim.

If I told you "black people eat babies" you absolutely would not believe me. (Vlado probably would, but whatever). It is too dumb to listen to, because you know black people don't actually eat babies.

Yet Jon read some stupid thing on the internet that was obviously stupid and should take eight seconds to debunk. And he believed it. He believed it because he wanted to believe it, because somewhere it fit the narrative that was already formed in his head.

"The most well off black people commit more crimes than the poorest white people" is complete bulls***, and anyone who isn't racist should look at that statement and inherently know it is false. Or, if you don't, at the very least look up statistics to see if it is true or not because tucking that away in your head as a fact.

I did watch the debate! And I actually saw Jon on Sargon's Youtube thing a couple weeks back (apparently he did two shows or something but I only saw the first - not a fan of Sargon but I watch a decent amount of right leaning youtube stuff from time to time to inform my opinion of people that are typically on the other side of arguments). I did not comment on Destiny because I have no opinion of Destiny, and never cared about anything he does (or ever will do).

Jon specifically was more interesting because I was familiar with him and liked some of the stuff he put out. It was years ago, on Game Grumps, and I really haven't watched any of his stuff since then so I'm definitely not a hardcore fan or anything like that. So yeah, he wasn't someone I was hoping was racist >_>

"He was nice to black people in the past" isn't enough for me to classify him as not racist. There are plenty of people that might have a couple black friends (or friends of any sort of group you want to think of) but still have racist or bigoted feeling about that group as a whole. It isn't a good enough defense for me, particularly with how bad his comments were. My point is more along the lines of "if you aren't a racist, you aren't going to believe this clearly racist talking point". Does that make sense? I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself well, but it shows (to me at least) a predisposition to believe those kinds of thoughts. Like it fits into the narrative he wants to exist. There is no other reason to believe something like that. It's something that should immediately trip your bulls*** detector.

Interacted was probably the wrong word, as I was rushing out that during work (I'mma bad).

Let's say it like this. He's collaborated a lot with African Americans. Is friends with them. He's done plenty of shows and podcasts with African Americans and has joked around and treated them like any other people in the room. I feel that lends a bit of credence to him not thinking less of them as a race. It was like, the smallest part of my point too.

I respect this post and I respect that you watch both sides of issues. I do the same thing, because I believe in having perspective of all sides. I understand your point, but I disagree that believing it means you're racist if you believe that talking point. There are plenty of people who could see it and believe it and be disappointed that was the case. It isn't indicative of them going "Man, these rich black folk are just as bad as I thought they were." Like, I know predisposition to believe something is a thing, but I'm saying it's not always the case, especially for a guy like JonTron who was trying to say "everyone is equal right now!" and doesn't seem to hold any ill towards African Americans except, I believe, some negative things he's said about any of the mayhem done in Black Lives Matters' names (also stemming from his idea that he doesn't get why they're protesting so hard because he thinks everyone is equal).

My point was that I believe people are just readily willing to see JonTron's words from a viewpoint of hate. The entire debate even hinged on Destiny assuming everything JonTron said was from a viewpoint of hate, which is why it devolved so fast. I mean, if the guy he's debating with is speaking with the pretense that Jon is racist, I think it's much easier to see everything Jon says from a more racist outlook. Literally everything he's said about politics before this point never hinted so much as an ill thought towards black people. It's only when thrown into this high pressure situation where a guy is acting on the pretense that everything Jon believes is because of racism that this sort of thing took a racial turn.

And I do still think that JonTron is wildly incorrect about most things he said, all I'm saying is that I don't think that much of what he said was racist or because he is a racist. And you are perfectly welcome to disagree with that.
