Illegal immigration across the southwest border is down more than 60 percent so far under President Trump, officials revealed Tuesday, even before the first new agent is hired or the first mile of his promised border wall is constructed.

Testifying to the committee in a first hearing Tuesday, former Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar said the percentage may be even higher than Mr. Trump teases. Compared with 2016, he said, apprehensions on the southwest border were down 67 percent through March.

Mr. Aguilar credits Mr. Trump, who has freed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to pursue illegal immigrants in the interior of the U.S. and vowed to tighten border controls.

And all with a single brick of the wall built yet. Pencil that man in for another term already.

Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if illegal immigrants are just more scared and as a result less obvious about their documentation status.

i think it is unrealistic to chalk all of this up to that. it's more likely that their fear is resulting in ,more of them deciding not to try to come here.

the criticism of draconian solutions isn't that they don't work; it's that the cure is worse than the disease.

Just like Trump's rhetoric about jobs, he was campaigning on issues that weren't really problems anymore. He says he'll bring jobs back when we've had some thing like 6 straight years of positive jobs reports so he can take credit for something he had no part in. He says he'll strengthen our borders when illegal immigration was at a net zero and moving towards going into the negatives so he can take credit for that despite doing literally nothing. Lol and he made sure to appeal to all the stupid people in America so that his voters will actually fall for this idiocy.

why is it that Canada and US has done so much better in the world, but Mexico rides that fine line of almost being a third world country? I hear that its because of drug laws, but a lot of 1st world countries have harsh drug laws. They benefited more than anyone from NAFTA, yet they don't want to stay in the country.
