Tank. My usual routine is gearing up until I'm practically unkillable and then run around babysitting newbies in dungeons.

Outside of the survivability, tank is often one of the most boring jobs to play both in game play and aesthetics. I get off helping less fortunate players who can't afford to god gear themselves, but still want to have fun.

I tend to avoid online games where the tank is too stupidly expensive to main due to microtransactions. If I can get most of the prime gear from drops, then I'm interested enough to blow $$$ funding the rest of pay2win gears.

Deeps, well in world of warcraft's case, rogues. Back when I played vanilla and burning crusade, I was really into the whole stealth and sap thing. I don't know, something about the rogue class I found really fun in world of warcraft.

I do well at any of those roles. Back when I played WoW, I'd switch roles depending on my mood. It was pricey due to respecing every couple days, especially before they let you have two saved builds. I played a Paladin.

That did mean I was rather familiar with each style of play. However, functionally, I mainly tanked in my own 5 man runs and mainly DPS'd during guild raids, but I could step in to heal or tank as needed.

I'm particularly fond of class roles that are support hybrids. I'm okay with dealing less damage, for example, if I have support abilities for my team mates. I'd keep Hand of Protection hot keyed, incase a healer or squishy DPS caught aggro. I'd toss out a Hand of Sacrifice or Sacred Shield on the tank, or other focused target, and bubble during boss fights with high damage phases to make the healers' job easier. I'd toss a Hand of Freedom on snared targets. I'd cast a FoL boosted by Selfless Healer on damaged party members if the healers were falling behind. I'd even taunt stray adds that were going after ranged to lure them to the tank's range.

Sure, that meant I dealt a little less damage sometimes, but like to think I saved a few team mates from death and maybe helped prevent a wipe by using that situational support instead of getting tunnel vision on muh deeps.

I also liked playing Medic in TF2. Keeping everyone topped off and some overhealed was satisfying, when it gave them the edge for a successful push. Nothing better than a well timed Ubercharge.

You guys who love healing, I'm guessing you never played FFXI. That was the worse role to play. 5 dps and 1 healer, no tank because it lowers kill speed. Hate bouncing all over the place, people not switching to defensive gear when they have the mobs attention, along with the constant bitching about needing haste like 2 seconds after it wears off. Or you leave them poisoned so you don't have to worry about AoE sleep, and they complain about taking 1 point of damage every 3 seconds.

Healing/support was a thankless job, and if people knew you had it geared, good luck getting to come as anything else.

Tank and healer primarily. It's how I built my paladin in WoW years ago, and if i cant play both roles with one class in other games i roll two characters

Though in rare cases where I can play as a DPS/Support Hybrid , that's fine.

Nemesis from DFO and Physician from Dragon Nest come to mind.
