Drive a 2016 buick regal 2.0T I was entering the freeway, my hand slipped on my shifter and switched it to M mode. I didn't notice and when I entered from a yield point my engine revved to 5k rpms a bit before redline before I realized what was going on. This happened for 2-3 seconds and when I noticed that acceleration was weird I shifted it back to D. Will my car be okay?

1 Why the hell was your hand on the shifter in an automatic?
2 REdlining bad. Nearly redlining fine. The car has enough nanny shit to protect you and itself that you're fine.

You can rev and hold your engine at (or close) to redline for quite a while without any catastrophic failure, provided you have a 'healthy' engine.

I reached over to grab my glasses in the cupholder and must have nudged it.

You've obviously never driven a Buck Regal.

Most cars have their rev limit set pretty conservatively. You won't hurt it by running it to the redline once in a while. You just don't wanna be the moron banging off the limiter on a regular basis since it leads to more wear over time and it is more stress on engine parts so if there is a weak link somewhere, it's more likely to fail at higher rpms. But as previously stated, you're perfectly fine assuming the engine is pretty healthy. (Which it should be on such a new car)

Thanks. Yeah redline on mine is 7-8krpm, I just noticed loud noise and me not accelerating.

lol come drive my Jeep Patriot and say that. Can't tell you the amount of times I was DDing in college and a fuck nut would knock the shifter into semi mode. Way too soft. Newer Jeeps and the Tiptronic systems are trying way too hard to be sports cars.

It's a fake jeep. It's a lifted Chrysler Sebring.

Eh? A really good example of a TJ is ~14k.

Oh wait, you're talking about JK's? Fake jeeps too. Wrong suspension, wrong drivetrain. It's as if you described what a wrangler was to someone, then they designed it by committee trying to market it to people who will never take it offroad.

Compared to the TJ which has a station wagon engine?
