I owed the government $400.

I am getting married and will be buying a house this year so I may get a refund next go around though!

It was lining up to to only be $800, but then I clicked some box concerning something called a "earned income tax credit" and it magically jumped to $1,500. I don't know what an earned income credit is, but I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

I owe a grand. Between investment income, my fiance spending half rhe year on maternity leave (we get 12 months in canada) and working two part time jobs that didn't take enough tax off. .. still not as bad as last year when I owed 2500.

lol dude, earned income credit can get you a shit ton of money. That's legit. Single moms get like $5000 a kid just cuz (which is a drop in the bucket in terms of raising a kid, but it's nice to get a big chunk all at once like that).

I wasn't serious. I'm honestly just salty because I moved and can't find some tax forms I need. I haven't filed yet. Trying to before the 18th.

Yeah every single mom I know has an insane tax return. I hate it because to be honest most of them are irresponsible with it. Don't get why we reward irresponsible people for getting knocked up.

Pretty sure this is supposed to be the average tax return unless you're working some kind of dead end retail job.

Nah, it just depends on how you fill out your W2 form. The more you overpay taxes throughout the year, the bigger the tax return. If you underpay, then you have to pay when tax time comes around.
